Have a condiment in your fridge that dates to before you were born? Send it! History is everywhere. And is usually good long after the sell by date. We’ll feature your pics here. But only if you’re as drippy as Dr. Moise.

Recent CAH Faculty of the Year D’Ondre Swails sporting footwear of the year! Meeting up here with Ranger Bruce at the MLK National Historic Site in Atlanta. Dr. Swails interned with Ranger Bruce a decade ago. This writer regularly wears clothing from a decade ago. But wishes she had a Ranger hat.

The Department wrapped up the year with a number of accolades! History Department graduate and lecturer Andrew Baker received the 2025 Dean’s Outstanding Lecturer Award. Dr. Baker continues to not only helm undergraduate classes on American history but also provides invaluable feedback to the graduate students in our department. Associate Professor Rachel Moore received the 2025 Gentry Award for Teaching. Dr. Moore fills Hardin 024 and 232 with interactive classes on Latin American history and film history. Assistant Professor D’Ondre Swails was named College of Arts and Humanities Faculty of the Year. Dr. Swails specializes in 20th century African American cultural and intellectual history. Congratulations to all of these valued colleagues! And their respective cats and dogs!

Congratulations to two of our favorite department mainstays on their recent promotions! Caroline Dunn has been promoted to full professor and continues to delight in spreading stories of plague and ladies-in-waiting in her classes. Josh Catalano has been granted tenure and promotion to associate professor while serving as Faculty-in-Residence in the Honors College and chainsawing the odd fallen tree at request. We are truly fortunate to count both of them as colleagues!

Starting this Tuesday, join Dr. Burns for HIST 4940: World War II in Film! This Summer I Online class starts Tuesday, runs through D-Day and wraps up June 20.
