🧡 Clemson IE alumni leadership in action!

Clemson Industrial Engineering alumna Deb Conklin ‘92, President & CEO of KeHE Distributors, returned to Clemson this week as the inaugural speaker for the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences’ Engineering Leadership Signature Speaker Series.

The new series brings accomplished leaders to Clemson to inspire the next generation of engineers to lead with character, purpose and impact.

We’re proud to see a Clemson IE alumna helping launch the series and sharing her leadership experience with today’s students. 🧡

Dr. Yongjia Song brings an industrial engineering mindset to his role as Clemson IE associate chair.

After serving as interim associate chair last year, Dr. Song is continuing in the role with a focus on proactive, data-informed planning that supports students, faculty and staff.
One of his priorities is developing a decision-support platform that could help Clemson IE better anticipate course demand, identify potential bottlenecks, and align instructional resources with student needs.

This summer, Clemson IE had the opportunity to connect with students participating in programs through Clemson’s Office of College Preparation & Outreach.

During the program resource fair, Dr. David Neyens met with students from Emerging Scholars, Clemson Career Workshop, and Tiger Alliance to introduce them to industrial engineering and share more about the opportunities available through Clemson IE.

We love opportunities to help students explore their interests, discover new possibilities and learn how industrial engineers use problem-solving to make systems work better.

Thanks to Clemson’s Office of College Preparation & Outreach for helping students explore pathways to college and their futures at Clemson! 🐅

Over the summer, Clemson IE had a wonderful opportunity to study abroad for 6 weeks in Clermont, France! 🇫🇷 Through industry visits, coursework, and unforgettable experiences across France, this program allowed students to see engineering and operations research through a global lens while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

A special thank you to our partners at Université Clermont Auvergne for hosting our students and providing an incredible experience!

Faculty Spotlight! 👏

Clemson Industrial Engineering’s Dr. Mary Kurz recently presented at the Material Handling Teachers Institute conference, sharing her experiences teaching and redesigning the department’s Facilities Layout and Design course.

Her presentation discussed how incorporating real-world problems and hands-on challenges can help students connect engineering concepts to practical design decisions. Her ongoing course redesign continues to improve the engineering classroom and emphasizes problem-based learning to students.

We’re beyond proud to see Clemson IE shaping the future of engineering education!
