Lan Zhang, assistant professor in the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson, has received a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to help AI-powered devices communicate more efficiently over wireless networks.

Instead of treating every piece of data equally, her research helps AI systems prioritize the most important information so teams of drones, robots, vehicles and sensors can collaborate more effectively.

“Imagine a crowded room where everyone is talking at once,” Zhang said. “The goal isn’t for everyone to speak more loudly. It’s to make sure the people with the most important information are heard first. We’re bringing that same idea to AI systems so they can use limited wireless resources much more intelligently.”

New equipment can help make the electric grid stronger and more reliable, but utilities need to know it can operate safely before putting it into service. That means meeting standards and, in many cases, going through certification.

Clemson University’s Duke Energy eGRID can help by allowing new equipment and technologies to be tested under real-world conditions without putting the actual grid at risk.

The National Science Foundation has selected the Carolinas Grid Engine, with Clemson as a core partner, for a major Regional Innovation Engine award to help modernize America's electric grid.

Clemson researchers, led by Associate Professor Ramtin Hadidi, will help develop innovative energy technologies while strengthening workforce development and economic growth across the Carolinas.

The Spring 2026 ECE Senior Design Showcase is a wrap! 🎉

Our ECE seniors presented their capstone projects to faculty, industry partners, alumni, and peers. Each project represents months of problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on engineering, bringing ideas from initial concept all the way to fully realized designs.

We’re incredibly proud of the innovation, dedication, and technical excellence demonstrated across all teams this semester. Your hard work truly reflects the strength of our ECE program and the bright future ahead for our students.
