The Memoir group begins its sixth year of sharing the stories of our lives, stories for ourselves, our friends, and especially family members. We invite you to join us the 4th Tuesday of each month via Zoom. Members share written stories of their childhood years and college days, various adventures and everyday happenings, experiences in historic times, and while doing so, prompt others to their own recollections—some which end up being written stories, too. The committee for the Moments and Memories II book project is hosting a monthly writing support session. Moments and Memories, Volume II writing sessions are designed to inspire your thinking about your time at Clemson, engender topics and episodes to write about, provide time to write, and solicit feedback from other Emeritus College participants. Our sessions will be held the third Tuesday of each month from 2 PM - 3PM, alternating between face-to-face sessions at the EC and virtual sessions on Zoom. During the 1960s the rock music scene blossomed in Los Angeles, CA, driven by the synergy created by the Sunset Strip, Laurel Canyon properties, and the rise of independent recording studios. Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Carol King, Johnny Rivers, Linda Ronstadt, The Beach Boys, The Turtles, The Monkees and many others grew their talents in this rich musical environment, becoming stars. With stardom sometimes come problems associated with success in the music business. This presentation explores the mostly unknown ways much of the music was created and why so much of it is still popular today. Trivia has been defined as “things you either know immediately or not at all.” Skip’s trivia is like that. You can learn interesting stuff by participating on Zoom (no brownies that way!) or by joining in person. Some of the most interesting information is shared in conversation after each answer is revealed. EC folks are well-versed in countless topics.
