Fall Session starts September 30, 2026!

Clemmons Children’s Club is a Clemmons Moravian Church program for children in grades K through 5 with the goal of helping them grow physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually over a series of Wednesday evening sessions. The program is for church members as well as children of the community.

Each session includes a time of singing; a Bible lesson; a special game, activity and/or craft; and a meal. This Fall’s program will be Living in the Light. The stories of John the Baptist, Bartimaeus, Zacchaeus, Mary Magdalene, and Paul show how living in the Light turns our lives around and helps us be lights for others too. The staff is made of Clemmons Moravian Church members who have volunteered their time and talents to care for our children through this special ministry.

Meeting schedule: The Fall sessions will be September 30th, October 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, and November 4th, beginning at 4:30pm in room 126 of the Christian Education Building. The program will last until 5:45pm with a meal being served from 5:45-6:15pm. The last session (November 4th) will be a celebration of our time together.

Cost: The program is free.
A donation may be requested to help offset the price of the ending celebration.

The first Moravian lovefeast held in North Carolina happened on November 17, 1753, the very day the first Moravian settlers arrived at Bethabara. The Christmas Eve version of the tradition is now more than 250 years old. 🕯️

A lovefeast is simple by design: congregants share a sweet bun and a cup of coffee together while hymns are sung, a communal meal meant to represent unity rather than a formal communion service. Only the Christmas Eve lovefeast includes candles, a tradition added later as a visual lesson for children, meant to show that grace itself is the light of the world. The candles are still handmade from beeswax and tallow today, each one trimmed with a red paper frill.

In Winston-Salem, the tradition continues every December in Moravian churches across the city, often preceded by a stop at the historic Winkler Bakery in Old Salem for fresh sugar cake and lovefeast buns straight from an oven that's been in continuous use for generations.

Two hundred and seventy years later, it's still just coffee, a bun, and a candle passed hand to hand. ✨
