Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service provides programs, tools, and resources
that teach people how to improve agriculture and food production, advance health
practices, protect the environment, strengthen our communities, and enrich youth. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is a unique education agency with a statewide
network of professional educators, trained volunteers, and county offices

. Some of our major efforts are in
mitigating drought impacts; conserving water use in homes, landscapes, and production
agriculture; improving emergency management; enhancing food security; and protecting
human health through education about diet, exercise, and disease prevention and management. AgriLife Extension demonstrates the latest technology and best practices to improve the
state’s food and fiber system, which serves all Texas consumers and contributes nine percent of the gross domestic product. Texas 4-H, our primary youth program, engages some 600,000 youth every year in learning projects, leadership development, and community service.

Fun night at the ballpark! JC Master Gardeners had a booth at Harvest Fest before the game. We gave away seeds to help people get a start on their fall gardens. We also passed on some fall flowers to 2 lucky door prize winners. Then it was off to watch the Railroaders! Hoping for another win tonight.

Clean up is no fun in a heatwave in Texas. This morning we met at Lillian Elementary to help 2 teachers get the evasive Sunflowers removed from their beds. (Kids were hiding behind the sunflowers during recess. 😂) There is still work to be done to repair beds before the Jr. Master Gardeners begin again in September. Wishing the teachers at Lillian Elementary a wonderful school year!

A day at the museums for Johnson County Master Gardeners! We toured Bass Hall focusing on the art of the local artists Stuart and Scott Gentling. They painted the 89-foot dome ceiling inside the main auditorium, featuring a breathtaking Texas "Painted Sky" design. Our own Master Gardener, Nancy Scoggin, who is also a docent at Bass Hall, arranged this wonderful tour. Then we visited the Amon Carter museum for a private curated tour of the art of the Gentling brothers. We were most interested in the brothers paintings of native Texas birds painted in Texas native plants.
