Three original founding members of our chapter received Emeritus recognition: Paul Murphy, Elaine Bell, and Greg Marsh. We also awarded $9,000 in scholarships to four Johnson County High School graduates. The recipients of these scholarships were: Chris Schneider Scholarship ($3,000) to Kade Davis, Grandview HS; Ben Oefinger Scholarship ($2,000) to Savannah Riddell, Cleburne HS; JCMGA Scholarship ($2,000) to Maci Keith, Burleson HS; and Jack Rowland Scholarship ($2,000) to Lila Heiner, Godley HS (not present). We had some fun today in Johnson County at our Community Day at the Cleburne State Park! We spent time with children helping them create pictures from seeds. We encouraged them to take nature walks, rewarding them with plastic bugs-the best kind. We also shared samples of herbs grown at Guinn Gardens with adults.

The featured educational speakers at our monthly meeting last night were the proprietors of the Wild Birds Unlimited store in Burleson, who presented an engaging slideshow on hummingbirds and showcased various products, including hummingbird feeders and a liquid product that helps to extend freshness of hummingbird nectar. Additionally, they generously provided two door prizes, which were greatly appreciated.

Jr. Master Gardeners Harvested onions and potatoes this week at Lillian Elementary’s garden. Today we celebrated the last class meeting by eating baked potatoes. The kids took home bags of potatoes and onions to their families. Tarrant County’s food bank garden support group brought tomato and pepper plants for the kids.
