We’re officially more than halfway through our inventHERS x STEMHER Initiative Innovation Hub, and I continue to be so impressed by this group of young women in Nigeria.

Every week, they show up ready to share ideas, ask questions, and think outside the box. They log on after a full day of school, during what is already their dinner time, and still come ready to participate. The dedication is real.

We’ve spent the past several weeks moving from identifying problems to imagining solutions and now bringing those ideas to life through prototyping. Watching their ideas develop, and seeing them become more willing to take creative risks each week, has been one of my favorite parts.

These are some seriously impressive young women, and I’m excited to see where they take their ideas next.

If you’d like to support more opportunities like this, give inventHERS and STEMHER Initiative a follow. We may be working from different parts of the world, but we share a goal: creating more opportunities for young women to see themselves as innovators.

And to our girls in Nigeria: thanks for continuing to log on. 💜 We’re not finished yet!

Make a morning of Grandparents Day weekend in Downtown Dunedin!

On Saturday, September 12th, inventHERS is hosting a special Intergenerational STEM/Maker Lab at the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce.

Kids ages 5+ are invited to bring a grandparent, grandfriend, parent, or another special adult and create side-by-side. You'll use paper circuits and LEDs to design a light-up creation celebrating someone who lights up your life. ❤️

Come anytime between 9–11 AM, then keep the morning going! Walk around Downtown Dunedin, visit the playground at the marina, grab an ice cream from Strachan’s or popcorn from Harley’s across the street, and enjoy a little time together.

💜 $10 suggested donation benefiting inventHERS and our work helping young people (especially girls) build creative confidence and see themselves as inventors, makers, and problem-solvers.

No STEM experience required. Just bring someone special and an idea. Invention is for all...and this time, we’re proving it across generations.

In honor of International Bat Day, we’re turning a few simple materials into a mechanism that MOVES. This build is a fun way to explore pivot points, linkages, tension, and motion, all while learning a little about one of nature’s coolest flyers.

The best part? You don’t need fancy materials to start inventing. Grab some cardboard, scissors, and string and see what you can make move!

✨ Build it. Test it. Tinker with it. Make it yours.

Looking for a quick and intentional way to spark creativity with your students? 💡

Try turning an everyday problem into an invention challenge with Aqua by Adobe! Give students a problem to notice, a space to imagine and sketch their solution, and then let them bring that idea to life.

A little creativity + a real-world problem can lead to some pretty BIG ideas.

It’s International Dog Day! Some of my favorite inventHERS investigations are inspired by a passion for pets. It is always so refreshing to see young people advocating for those who can’t always use their own voice - people and pets alike!

As a super fun highlight, I want to share a group of amazing girls who turned their love for a pet into an opportunity for invention. Check out the question on their board: What happens when the seeing-eye dog can’t see?"

What a fantastic question! I can’t give away their intellectual property, but this is such a phenomenal reminder that inventors start by asking questions and then turn those questions into investigation and action.

No question is silly. Don’t get stuck on what seems impossible. And always look out for the underdogs (seeing or not!).

If you’d like to support programming that works to inspire the next generation of female inventors (and HUGE dog lovers), consider giving inventHERS a follow, a shout-out, or a donation.

Wonka-style creativity is what I asked for over the weekend, and that is exactly what I got! Cosmic Donuts was beaming with Everlasting Gobstopper energy on Saturday as I watched young inventors put their imaginations to task.

inventHERS hopes to shed light on the inventors we don’t talk about enough, one being the innovative bakers out there! Invention happens in the kitchen all the time (for the good and the bad! Haha).

Check out some of the donuts that our innovative bakers created using 3D Printing Pens! To highlight a few…pickle & pizza donuts, nature infusions, glow-in-the-dark, and so much more!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support . All proceeds go to supporting more programming like this! Big shout-out to two amazing volunteers, Dillon & Mary.

There’s something pretty magical about handing a kid a pile of pieces and not telling them what to make.

Clixo creates the kind of play the inventHERS community loves: open-ended, hands-on, and full of possibility. There isn’t a finished example everyone is trying to recreate. One handful of pieces can become a creature, a crown, a contraption, a structure… or something that doesn’t even have a name yet.

Kids need opportunities to make decisions, follow their curiosity, experiment with an idea, and discover “Wait…I wonder if I could…” Those little moments are where creativity lives!

A huge thank you to Clixo for creating such a wonderfully novel, flexible, imagination-stretching tool and for bringing a little more creativity into our everyday lives.

We've decided donuts are excellent fuel for inventing. Have you ever imagined a donut topped with rainbow popcorn? Filled with cookie dough? Covered in glow-in-the-dark sprinkles? Good. Now let's invent it.

This Saturday, inventHERS is teaming up with Cosmic Donuts for Donuts & Design: Dream Up a Donut, a hands-on workshop where imagination is the secret ingredient.

We'll start by learning about an inspiring woman inventor or entrepreneur, then kids get to dream up a completely original donut of their own. They'll sketch their idea before breaking out the colorful 3D doodle pens to build a miniature version they can take home.

And because Saturday mornings don't always go according to schedule, we made this one easy: come anytime between 9:00–11:00 AM. The activity takes about 20–30 minutes, so there's still plenty of time to grab some actual donuts while you're there.

Registration includes all materials, their 3D donut creation, an inventor-themed mini activity booklet, an exclusive event sticker AND a **$5 Cosmic Donuts coupon.**

Palm Harbor homeschool families - we're starting something new this Friday! ☕️💜

inventHERS is partnering with Cool Beans Coffee & Ice Cream for the very first Coffee, Creativity & Construction, a FREE monthly meetup where homeschool families can connect while their little makers get creative.

For our August meetup, we'll read *The Most Magnificent Thing*, a story we LOVE because it shows kids that creating something new isn't always easy. Ideas change. Things don't work. We get frustrated. We try again. That's invention! We're thrilled to be partnering with Clixo to bring their flexible magnetic construction materials to our young makers. Instead of everyone building the same thing, kids will be encouraged to experiment and see where their imaginations take them.

📅 Friday, August 21
⏰ 9:30–10:30 AM
📍 Cool Beans Coffee & Ice Cream in Palm Harbor
💜 Completely FREE!

Parents, grab a coffee. Kids, bring your imagination. We'll provide the rest.

This is our first one, and we'd LOVE to fill Cool Beans with local homeschool families ready to meet, make, and create together. See you Friday! ☕️💡

Nonprofits need your support more than ever, and National Nonprofit Day is the perfect excuse to show them some love. 💜

I'm going to be real: right now, it's tough out there for organizations intentionally creating programming for women and girls. Funding is competitive, priorities are changing, and there are even opportunities where explicitly centering women or girls can affect eligibility. But girls haven't stopped needing opportunities, mentors, resources, safe spaces, and people willing to invest in them.

Thankfully, there are some pretty incredible organizations continuing to do exactly that.

Girlstart and STEM Gems are helping girls imagine themselves in STEM. Girls Who Code is opening doors in technology. Girls on the Run builds confidence through movement. Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, Girls Inc. of Pinellas, and Pace Center for Girls are doing important work right here in our community. The National Girls Collaborative Project is strengthening the network of organizations serving girls in STEM, and STEMHER is creating opportunities for girls in Nigeria.

If you believe in what one of these organizations is doing, consider showing them a little love today. A donation is wonderful, but support doesn't always have to involve money. Follow them. Share a program. Comment on their work. Volunteer. Tell a friend. Connect them with someone who might be able to help.

There are a lot of people working very hard behind the scenes to create opportunities for girls. Today is a good day to remind them that people are paying attention.

Happy National Nonprofit Day. 💜
