MEMORIAL DAY BOATING SAFETY REMINDER

ABC 7's Summer Smith talked to Captain Peg Phillips, Executive Director of the National Safe Boating Council, on ABC7 News at Noon, as part of National Safe Boating Week, which runs May 16 through May 22.

As the holiday weekend approaches, safety experts are urging boaters to wear life jackets, check weather conditions, and file a float plan before heading out.

Officials say preparation is key as more people head onto Florida waterways for Memorial Day weekend.

Traveling at slow speeds, or idling, can cause carbon monoxide to build up on your boat. The same applies to a tail wind, which may blow exhaust towards passengers.
