Hitting Dumbed Down for Dummies-

05/19/2026

I love mixing:
🔥 high-velocity seated overhand throws
with
🐢 slow, loopy underhand spinners

Now the hitter has to:
👉 adjust timing
👉 control tempo
👉 stay athletic
👉 react instead of guess

Too many hitters train one speed…
one rhythm…
one look.

Real hitting isn’t comfortable.

The best hitters learn how to slow down the slow stuff…
WITHOUT speeding up for the hard stuff.

Mixing speeds trains adjustability.
And adjustability is what shows up in games.

10–11 years old… already learning what actually matters.

I call it L.A.C.P.

👉 Launch — where the swing begins
(Barrel works behind the ball, lower body starts to go)

👉 Approach — the plane to the ball
(High/low, in/out… how you enter the zone)

👉 Contact — where you meet it
(Control it. Repeat it.)

👉 Power V — the release through the ball
(Extension through direction — not pushing, releasing)

That’s the swing.

Not 50 moving parts.
Not overthinking mechanics.

If you can tighten these 4 things on video…
your swing gets consistent.

At 10–11 years old… this is everything.

⚾️ The new way to tee.

If you’re running lessons or team reps… this matters.

Every time you move a tee = lost swings.
Every time it gets knocked over = wasted time.

Handy Tee fixes that.

👉 Set any pitch location instantly
👉 Keep hitters moving—no resets
👉 No tipping, no chasing balls
👉 Portable for cages, fields, tournaments

More reps. Less downtime. Better sessions.

REWIND DRILL 🔁 (August ‘24 Throwback)

A little double entendre here…
we’re not just rewinding the video—
we’re rewinding the swing.

Working in reverse is one of the easiest ways to trick the body into moving right… without overthinking it.

Instead of forcing positions…

👉 Rewind the swing
👉 Reverse engineer it
👉 Go from extension → back → load → go

It’s a simple way to feel the sequence instead of thinking through it.

You can even do it off a full swing like I’m showing here—
👉 one-hand release
👉 stay centered
👉 feel the path clean up

⭐ Quick note:
This is not me showing “perfect mechanics.”
This is me showing a drill to help you move better.

However you swing…

Try it.

Game changer for my online hitters.

Where do you hold your hands? 🤔

I get asked that all the time…..Simple rule 👇

👉 If one hand lines up with your armpit… you’re usually in a good spot.

Too low 👎
👉 You’ll come up too steep to high pitches
👉 Hard to get back on plane

Too high 👎
👉 Down to the ball takes too long
👉 Hard to get behind it

Find the middle.

👉 If you had to shove someone from your armpit… where would your hands push from??

Start there.

Sometimes the truth hurts… 😬

First Zoom lesson with a young hitter.

I told him, “This might be the worst swing I’ve ever seen…”

Then I laughed and said, “I’m just kidding.”

But here’s the truth:

Too many young hitters get fed nonsense instead of real help.

If the move is broken, fix the move.

So we simplified it:

👉 Simple setup
👉 Clean path to the ball
👉 No wasted movement
👉 Quick, repeatable, consistent move

Young hitters don’t need 47 cues.

They need honesty. Simplicity. Direction.

Truth might sting…

But confusion hurts longer.

10 Second Tip: Match the Plane 👇

A lot of mis-hits come from the shoulders and barrel not working together.

If the shoulders dip but the barrel stays flat… trouble.
If the barrel lifts but the shoulders stay level… same issue.

Watch great hitters near contact:

👉 Shoulder angle and bat angle are often very close
👉 Helps the barrel stay on plane longer
👉 Cleaner contact, fewer mish*ts

Small detail. Big result.

A tee that doesn’t tip. 👀

If you’re a hitting coach doing lessons all day… you already know the frustration.

Standard tees get knocked over.
You stop the drill.
Reset it.
Lose time.
Kill rhythm.

The Handy Tee changes that.

Live placement. Faster reps. Better flow. Even mish*ts don’t knock it over.

From a 15-year coaching vet — this is a game changer for lessons.

Smart hitters focus on what the ball looks like in the last 10 feet. 👀⚾️

In this video, I’m training a young hitter using a machine set low to the ground. Yes—the front side of the flight looks loopier.

But that’s not the point.

What matters is the final approach angle near contact — the same window the hitter actually has to solve in a game.

Hitters don’t swing at the first 50 feet.
They react to the last 10.

So if you’re using a machine:

👉 Stop obsessing over the delivery look
👉 Start checking the approach near the plate
👉 Match what the hitter really sees at contact

Train the decision window. Not the cosmetics.

Level | Avg Fastball Velocity | Estimated Downward Angle at Plate | Notes

Major League Baseball | 92–95 mph | -4.5° to -5.5° | Flattest due to velocity + extension

NCAA Baseball | 85–91 mph | -5.0° to -6.0° | Good arms can approach pro range

High School Baseball | 75–85 mph | -5.8° to -7.0° | Wider variance depending on age and skill

Youth Baseball | 50–70 mph | -7.0° to -10.0° | Much steeper due to slower velocity
