Learning how to fill out a job application is one of the first steps in AIA's Transition Program. This week students looked at real examples, identified what they have in common, and started thinking about what employers are actually looking for.

This is what preparing for adult life looks like within our Transition Program.

Something exciting is coming. 🎨

AIA has partnered with Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg for a very special exhibition. Original artwork created by our students will be on display, and the museum has dedicated an entire wall to their work. The exhibition is called Meaning, Purpose & Joy: Student Voices from Autism Inspired Academy.

Mark your calendar! On September 19 and 20, Imagine Museum is hosting Free Museum Weekend. Admission is free, donations made that weekend benefit AIA directly, and AIA staff and volunteers will be there both days.

For most of our students, this was the month of adjusting. Finding their footing in a new grade, a new classroom, or a new school entirely.

Supporting autistic students can have many different meanings. Here is what we mean at Autism Inspired Academy when we say we support autistic students.

We mean the environment was built for them, not adapted for them. We mean behavioral support is woven into the academic day, not separated from it. We mean families are partners, not recipients.

We mean a school that started with autistic students in mind and built everything else from there.

Communication at AIA is not just about speech at Autism Inspired Academy.

We support students who use AAC devices, picture communication systems, sign language, and other augmentative tools alongside or instead of spoken language. Staff are trained to model these systems in real time.

Every student deserves a way to communicate, and we take that seriously. 📚
