Yesterday, our professor Dr. Cara Estes and president Alan Moore led a shark dissection aboard one of our research vessels, giving Coastal Marine Education and Research Academy students a unique opportunity to see inside these incredible apex predators.
These dissections provide a rare opportunity to examine the anatomy of different shark species, learn more about what they’ve been feeding on in our area, and better understand the adaptations that allow them to thrive in our coastal waters. While our research focuses on the behavior and ecology of living sharks, dissections are an important part of understanding elasmobranch biology and giving students a more complete understanding of these animals.
As CMERA’s summer research season begins to wind down, our fall semester is just around the corner! If you’ve been considering pursuing a career in marine science but aren’t sure where to start, reach out to our team. We’d love to talk with you about your goals and help you find the right path at Moore Marine College. 🦈🌊
