This was my first time attending the event…
This is 10 days in the desert with 75,000 people…
And I didn’t know anyone but my boyfriend…(and to make it exciting, he purposely didn’t tell me anything about the experience..he kept telling me to “trust the process”)
Our 2nd night, we grabbed our bikes and went out with his friends to explore the playa…
It was cold, it was windy, and there was so much going on…the entire city was lit up…so many people out…so many activities
I was on a complete sensory overload…
We biked around for a few hours and I decided I should document some of the beautiful pieces of artwork on the playa…
When I noticed that my phone was gone…I had kept it in a basket that was on the front of my bike..and somehow it had come unzipped and my phone was nowhere to be found…it had clearly fallen out as we were biking.
We immediately backtracked all the places we had been that night and there was no phone to be found…
I was coming to a place of acceptance that the phone would never be found…after all people can’t be trusted…they are just out for themselves and do not give a sh*t about anyone else…
But…1 more place to look…perhaps the camp…maybe I just forgot it in the RV..
As we turned into our camp, I saw a couple walking down the path…they turned around and said, “We are looking for Carrie”…“We were walking and found your phone on the playa…”
I was in complete SHOCK…no way in hell was this really happening…
I immediately took a minute to breathe thinking “Omg, I can trust people” because when you live your whole life believing you can’t, yes, losing your phone [which now in hindsight is totally NBD] ends up bringing up your deepest wounds around how much you actually trust other people & something I'm passionate about helping my clients let their guard down around & not making everything become that the worlds out to get them…or in my case, steal their phone.
