Hello Carol Fraley Laferty-Dantzler and DHS Alumni. I'm posting a recent pic of my Mom, Helen Irene Peters Smith taken 11/6/2024 at her home in Reva, VA. My Mom is a member of the DHS class of 1946 She was born Jan 31 1929 in "Hagan Hall" where her family was living at the time. The family later relocated to Culpeper VA in 1946 having left Wood VA. She turned 96 this year and was still able to recall most of her grade school teachers. Miss Mattie for 1st, ??? for 2nd, Cecil Stallard for 3rd, Mrs Addington for 5th, Charlotte Nichols for 6th and Mrs Greer for 7th. She remembers she had a lot of different teachers in HS, but couldn't recall any names at this time. She had been living at home with assistance until August, but has since moved to the Dogwood Nursing Facility in Orange, VA. I'm sure she would appreciate any greeting cards if anyone is so inclined. Thanks!!

The Dungannon HS Alumni Association offers a one-year college scholarship to graduating high school seniors. The graduate must be a direct descendant of a DHS graduate or one who attended but got a GED later. Other required criteria are on the application. The amount is typically $1,000 for full-time status and good for only the first year of attendance. If you know of a graduating senior who may qualify, please contact Carol Fraley Laferty for more information. Email is [email protected]. Or Scott County/Kingsport area students can contact your counselor for info and an application. Deadline for consideration is before and NO LATER than April 15.
