Stay Up to Date with Homecoming!

Homecoming information is starting to roll out, and we know it can be easy to miss important details when they are posted throughout the school’s Facebook feed.

To make it easier to find everything in one place, we have added a Homecoming page to the Deuel School website! As we receive information about Homecoming activities, dress-up days, events, schedules, and other updates, we’ll continue sharing them on Facebook—but we’ll also post to the Homecoming page.

Instead of scrolling through the Facebook feed to find an older post, simply visit the school website and head to About Us in the navigation menu. Look for Homecoming.

The Homecoming page will be a convenient place to check for the latest information and make sure you don’t miss any of the fun planned for Homecoming Week!

Be sure to check back often as more details are added. Deuel’s Got Game!

Hello Cardinal Nation,

I am reaching out to see if anyone would be willing to help us with line judging for our JH (7th/8th Grade) and C Team Volleyball matches this season.

We are looking for people who would be willing to work matches throughout the season. No extensive experience is required, and we can provide any instruction needed.

Pay Rates:
• JH Volleyball (7th/8th Grade): $15 per match
• C Team Volleyball: $15 per match

If you are interested in helping, please let me know. Even if you are only available for certain dates, we would greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you for supporting our student-athletes and helping make our athletic events run smoothly!

By Superintendent Chad Schiernbeck

As we begin another school year, it is important to recognize that the work of a successful school district does not happen by accident. It requires thoughtful planning, collaboration, accountability, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement. That is the purpose of the Deuel School District Strategic Plan.

On June 2, 2026, administrators, teachers, and school board members spent the morning collaboratively reviewing the district's Strategic Plan and Scorecard while identifying priorities and action steps for the upcoming school year. The session provided an opportunity to reflect on progress toward district goals, analyze key performance data, and discuss areas where we can continue to grow and improve.

The planning process was facilitated by Sue Kern, an independent school improvement facilitator from Studer Education. Sue helped guide the conversation, encourage collaboration among participants, and identify actionable next steps that will support the district's continuous improvement efforts as we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year.

Our Strategic Plan is organized around four important pillars. These pillars provide a framework for the work of the district and help ensure that our decisions remain focused on the priorities identified by our stakeholders.

Academics
The Academics pillar focuses on creating a supportive, data-driven educational environment that promotes academic achievement, accountability, and lifelong learning skills while preparing students for success both academically and in real-world contexts. This means continually examining student performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, supporting effective instruction, and ensuring that students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed after graduation.

School Management
School Management focuses on the long-term health and sustainability of the district by developing smart enrollment strategies and maintaining efficient operations that support student success. This pillar also emphasizes the importance of a supportive and structured environment that fosters positive behavior and future readiness for all students, reminding us to consider both our current needs and the long-term future of the school district as we make decisions about resources, operations, and priorities.

Communication — Internal & External
The Communication pillar focuses on enhancing transparency through a structured, consistent, and inclusive approach to communication. Clear and effective communication is essential to building trust and ensuring that students, staff, families, and the community understand the work of the school district, while also encouraging open dialogue and providing timely, meaningful information to employees, parents, students, the school board, and the broader community.

School Pride & Engagement
The School Pride & Engagement pillar focuses on strengthening connections among staff, students, families, and the broader community to foster a positive and collaborative culture that supports student learning, staff engagement, community involvement, and pride in the school's identity and shared success. This work recognizes that schools are strongest when people feel connected to one another, take pride in their shared identity, and work together toward common goals.

Conclusion
The Strategic Plan and Scorecard will remain active guides for the work of our district, providing a shared direction and a clear framework for measuring our progress. They will help us stay focused on our priorities, monitor the results of our efforts, and make adjustments when needed. Meaningful improvement requires more than setting goals; it requires a collective commitment to working together, honestly evaluating our progress, celebrating successes, and addressing challenges along the way.

Ultimately, our purpose remains clear: to provide the best possible educational opportunities for every student. Our Strategic Plan provides the direction, but the continued dedication and collaboration of our school and community will determine how successfully we turn that vision into meaningful results.

Deuel’s Got Game! — Homecoming 2026

Get ready to play, Cardinals! This year’s Homecoming theme is “Deuel’s Got Game!” and we’re turning Homecoming Week into a celebration of iconic board games, card games, and video games!

The High School Student Council is in the very earliest stages of planning Homecoming Week, but students can look forward to a week filled with school spirit, fun activities, and plenty of opportunities to show off their game-themed creativity. More details about dress-up days, activities, and other Homecoming events will be shared as plans come together.

The week will officially get underway with Homecoming Coronation on Sunday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m. The Booster Club is once again planning a Fan Fest before Coronation, giving students, families, and fans a chance to gather and kick off Homecoming Week together.

The Cardinals will wrap up the week on Friday, September 18, when Deuel takes on the Flandreau Fliers. Come out, show your Cardinal pride, and help cheer our team to victory!
