All good things must come to an end, and it seems our time with the Future Leaders Program (FLP) at Westside High School has reached its final curtain call. Due to funding constraints, the Board of Education has made the bittersweet decision to conclude the program in Wyco. Today marks Oscar and my last day at Westside, and what a journey it has been!
Over the past six years, WHS FLP has proudly served 602 students, with this year's class of 158 being our largest yet. Together, we completed an impressive 2,590 hours of community service, and this year's students contributed a remarkable 771 of those hours! Talk about going out on a high note!
Six years ago, I made the decision to come out of retirement to help prepare the bright minds at Westside for their futures. Now, as FLP takes its final bow, I’m ready to slip back into retirement and tackle all those things I’ve put on the back burner. I plan to finally finish that book I started writing ages ago, embark on some thrilling travels (a.k.a. ghost hunting), and, of course, I’ll be around capturing the incredible moments of our awesome students with my camera.
Thank you to Westside’s administration, faculty, and staff for your support throughout the years.
So, while this chapter may be closing, the memories created will linger on. Here’s to new adventures and the bright futures of all our students!
