Honoring Indigenous Peoples Day / Columbus Day — October 12

On October 12, our school community recognizes Indigenous Peoples Day / Columbus Day as an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history, honor the diverse cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples, and learn from the history of the land and communities we call home.

Our district is fortunate to have strong ties with local tribal communities and a meaningful partnership with the Yakama Nation. Through this partnership, our students have opportunities to learn about Native American heritage, traditions, history, and the enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples in our region.

We are grateful for the knowledge, perspectives, and cultural learning shared with our students and staff. These connections help us foster greater understanding and respect for the rich history and living cultures of the Indigenous communities who have called this region home since time immemorial.

This October 12, we invite our community to reflect, learn, and recognize the important place Indigenous history and heritage hold in our shared community.

Recently Ms. Amy led a middle school lesson on the impact of bullying, helping students understand how words and actions affect others both online and in person. Through group discussions and real-life scenarios, she encourages her class to recognize warning signs and choose empathy over stepping back.

Hooked on Outdoor Ed! Mr. Taylor’s outdoor ed crew spent the day practicing their casts, trying their best to hit the target without hooking any nearby trees. After a few hilarious tangles and wild misses, most of the class finally got the release timing down and was slinging line like pros.
