I just got this message on Facebook from Jim Rupert. He is the husband of "Momma" Faith Rupert.

Dear friends... Our beloved Mom, teacher and friend, Faith Rupert, lived a life of extraordinary compassion that ended peacefully Monday night. Surrounded by loved ones in her last days, she laughed at jokes, troubled not a whit by this transition we call death. Her aching desire was that family, friends and former students know how much she loves them, and how much joy she found in her mission of teaching and caring for others.
This "daughter of Appalachia" grew up in the coal mining towns of Depression-era West Virginia, taught in childhood that her "good-ness" as a girl and woman would depend on her obedience to male authority. She decided otherwise.
Mom chose a partner, the Rev. James Rupert, who valued her as an equal. Amid America's civil rights movement this young couple worked in small towns and (Methodist) churches of New Jersey for a more inclusive, compassionate nation. When the church hierarchy found their activism troublesome, they shifted to teaching.
Mom founded high school theater programs in southern New Jersey's Washington Township and in Gilford, New Hampshire. Her days often began at 5am and ended late at night, after play rehearsals. In her hands, the works of Shakespeare, Wilder, Ibsen and others became classrooms for thousands of young minds -- and hospitals for often troubled young hearts. "If you don't think what she does is a ministry," Dad said, "You don't understand what ministry is."
Mom built -- through her teaching, her church work and the simple power of her magnetic friendship -- what we might call a "community of Faith." Her children are SO grateful for the kindness of so many from this far-flung congregation. We will gather on August 12 in New Hampshire at the Gilford Community Church to celebrate the life of this courageous, strong woman, and to share our grief, joy and love.

Wife's Weight

Last night, I swung my arm over my wife in bed and it felt a little easier than usual.
"Love, have you lost weight? I asked.
"Awww, thank you honey, that's so sweet of you, but I don't think so." She replied. "In fact if I am honest, I've actually piled it on lately."
"Oh, that explains it," I said out loud what should have forever stayed unsaid, "you've just sunk deeper into the mattress."
Today I am sleeping on the couch.

Calling the Class of 1970!
The 15th Annual Classic Car Show at the Olde Stone House Historic Village publishes a booklet for the event with facts, photos, and sells advertising space to raise money. We came up with an idea for raising some money for The Olde Stone House Historic Village; they want to purchase a Full Page ad (cost of $100 with a FREE trophy sponsorship) and list the names of the donors and have an "In memory of" for classmates no longer with them.

I thought this would be a cool idea for our class, and now the classes of 1973 and 2002 are following our lead. It is also a great way to give back to a place we all remember as kids!

The cost of the ad is $100, so hopefully we raise enough money, and anything extra will be a donation to the village for the upcoming restoration projects of the Olde Stone House (which is now a NJ State and National Landmark). This restoration project will cost us upwards of $125,000 so every dollar counts!

Best Wishes and Thank You For Your Consideration!
