Join the RED Club and TRI-M on February 17th to celebrate black history month in an event full of art, music, dance, and black history education. Enjoy music from students and local musicians, view art from our talented students, enjoy a performance from our step team, listen to a guest speaker speech, grab concession snacks and much more when you come out!

In addition to the event, the club will be collecting toiletries and canned goods to donate for the Johnston County homeless shelter for the entire month of February. Drop them off when you come to the event or in room 203 anytime before/after.

Ticket pre-sale will begin sometime next week so be on the look-out!

Lindale Hill, had realized that she really wanted a business of her own for many years that would get the whole family involved. It was when she met a friend in July 2019 who was selling bangles that she became inspired.
Persuaded by the fact that they could open to fit around any wrist, and the many colors, she bought ten and was on her way to start her business for less than $180. With the help of her family, they formed the Bangles by RBD team that sells a variety of beautiful bangles for people of all ages and sizes. They also sell JTH Handmade Design Jewelry on their website.
After their startup, Bangles by RBD immediately began creating their online store and booking events, and in their early peak was booked for every Saturday from August 31 through the second week in December.

Lori A. Jones has been a passionate chef since 2004. Jones has lived in Raleigh, NC all her life, but is originally from Memphis,TN.
With a passion for coffee, culinary arts, and flavor profiles, Jones created Black-ology Coffee to “Cultivate a Love for Black Coffee.” The company seeks to expose its customers from all different cultures, and backgrounds to the different tastes and flavors of coffee which they achieve through community, education, and the development of relationships with others. The company also supports minority, women owned coffee farms, the culture of black coffee, healthy lifestyles, and black culture.
The company started on July 13th, 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, but she did so to satisfy her desire to always have a business of her own. Before creating Black-ology Coffee, Jones was involved in numerous business start-ups, many of which were restaurants such as Angus Barn, Vivace, and Coquette. She was powered by her willingness to help people and her strong work ethic she applies to everything she takes on.
Lori A. Jones’ passion for food, her hard work, interest in culture, education, and diversity has helped her create her wonderful business and the CvHS Racial & Ethnic Diversity Club is proud to have her as one of our Black Entrepreneurs of the week!

Aniyah is a natural hair influencer on instagram. She is just 14 years old and from Virginia and she uses her page to inform other girls her age that they are not struggling with their natural hair alone. She uses her platform of over 900 followers to demonstrate how to love your hair and how to take care of it.
Aniyah originally started her account when an allergic reaction caused her hair to break off, which led her to do the big chop! Aniyah expresses that her natural hair means a lot to her. It represents her and she describes it as her “personal crown”.
At such a young age, Aniyah’s work to normalize the struggles of natural hair is outstanding and impressive. The CvHS Racial & Ethnic Diversity Club is proud to highlight her as one of our Black Leaders of the week!

Our second highlight of the week is Jazmine Nicole, a pioneer in entrepreneurship and natural hair care needs. Jazmine Nicole created the brand Anaka Honey (pronounced Uh-nah-ka), an all natural-ingredient hair care product line that originally started as a small business that has grown to an outstanding product that ships to many different countries.
The spark for the business originally started when Jazmine decided to stop using harsh chemicals on her hair and did the big chop back in 2011. Through numerous trials and experimentation she noted what worked and what didn’t, carefully crafting the formula for her first products.
After forming a few recipes, Jazmine credits motherhood to bringing her product development skills to the next level as she was committed to providing chemical-free products for her daughters who both expressed different hair care needs. It was through this dedication that more products were created.
The brand started small. The products were used on her daughters and sold to friends and family at first, but through word of mouth sales grew. A winning lottery ticket, and prayers to God led Jazmine to take what she created more seriously; looking at it as a real business.
Today with over 10 products, Anaka Honey is shipped all over the world. Jazmine’s products are sold in over 30 countries from the United States, to Canada, to Egypt.
Jazmine’s dedication, and hard work has created a product enjoyed by many all across the globe and the CvHS Racial & Ethnic Diversity Club is proud to highlight her as one of our Black Entrepreneurs of the week!

Our first spotlight of the week is Marlon Lee who is an educator at Clayton High School. Marlon graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from St. Augustine University in Raleigh.
Marlon has been working at Clayton for 20 years in an array of different roles to help benefit students. For his first 3 years Marlon taught Math, along with Business/Marketing Education. Another 13 years was spent as the At-Risk Specialist, Student Advocate, and the Graduation Coach. This year, Marlon works as a Student Advocate at CHS.
In addition, Marlon has been the Boy’s Basketball Assistant Coach for 4 years, the Assistant Track Coach for 1 year, the Junior Varsity and Head Volleyball Coach for 17 years and is currently serving his 16th year as Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach, and his 2nd year as Assistant Athletic Director.
Marlon is a committed individual and he has joined many organizations that have involved him in the community. He is the President of Smithfield Progressive Men’s Club, a member of the East Smithfield Improvement Organization, a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., a member of the Johnston County Branch of the NAACP, the Scholarship Chairman of the Johnston County Citizens Association, and he is serving his second term on the Smithfield Town Council. Marlon is also the founder and advisor for the Men of Distinction Club.
Marlon is doing a great service to his community and the CvHS Racial & Ethnic Diversity Club is proud to highlight him as one of our Black Community Leaders of the week!
