On September 3th, 2026, Cascade High School’s juniors, seniors, and several other students met with external individuals in a mock interview setting. Mock interviews with external partners give high school students real-world experience that builds confidence and prepares them for future opportunities. Students practice communication and professionalism in a supportive setting, receiving authentic feedback from industry professionals. These experiences strengthen soft skills, provide insight into workplace expectations, and connect students with valuable community partners who can support their career journeys. Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001. We pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and to honor the first responders, members of our military, and countless others whose service and sacrifice followed that day.

For the Mill Creek community, September 11 also carries a personal connection. Major Steven V. Long, a 1981 graduate of Cascade High School, was among those who perished at the Pentagon. Major Long served our country in the United States Army and is remembered at Cascade High School as a member of the C.A.D.E.T. Hall of Fame.

As we reflect on this anniversary, we remember Major Long, all those whose lives were lost, and the many who answered the call to serve in the days and years that followed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

What happens when you put students in front of real employers and give them a chance to practice?

Confidence grows. Skills sharpen. And sometimes, opportunities happen.

For Mock Interview Day, professionals from businesses and organizations across our community gave their time, talent, and feedback to interview our juniors and seniors, along with students from our freshman and sophomore classes.

Students practiced introducing themselves, communicating clearly, answering questions, listening, thinking on their feet, and presenting themselves professionally. More importantly, they walked away with something you can't teach from a worksheet: real experience and a little more confidence in what they can do.

And we may have seen a few job and internship offers come out of the day, too. 👀

A huge THANK YOU to every organization and professional who showed up for our students. Your time matters. Your feedback matters. And the opportunities you create can make a lasting difference.

This is what career readiness looks like when a community comes together for students.
