Someday, they will sit at a desk.

But today, they should still have time to wonder. 🌿

Time to crouch beside a fallen tree and look closely. To feel a chicken’s feathers for the first time. To collect sticks, follow a trail, ask a hundred questions and discover that the world is far bigger than anything we could fit on a worksheet.

At Green Garden, we believe childhood should feel like childhood.

Nature school is not simply taking children outside. It is giving them space to become capable, curious and deeply connected to the world around them.

Out here, children learn to trust their bodies. They decide whether something feels sturdy, how close they are ready to get and what they might try next. They solve problems together, recover when something does not work and discover the quiet confidence that comes from doing something for themselves.

And beside them are teachers who know when to ask a thoughtful question, when to offer a steady hand—and when to step back and let a child realize, “I can do this.”

These moments may look small: a hand reaching toward a chicken, two friends studying a log, or a child stopping to examine a flower.

But this is where confidence begins. This is where curiosity becomes a love of learning. This is how children become ready—not only for kindergarten, but for life.

When you choose a school, look beyond what is hanging on the walls. Look at who your child is being trusted to become.

You HAVE to see this one!

Tonight, our campers get the microphone. 🎤🌿

All summer, they’ve been learning what it means to be part of a community—not just by talking about helping, but by finding real ways to contribute.

Now comes the final challenge: How do we share everything we’ve accomplished?

Our campers have been working together to decide the best way to tell that story, and tonight, they’ll proudly present it at our Summer Camp Showcase.

We hope you’ll join us at 4:30 to celebrate their hard work, big ideas, and even bigger hearts. If you can’t make it, don’t worry—we’ll capture it on video so every family can see what they created. 💚

Friday morning reminder from Clawson: being a work in progress is kind of the whole point. 💚

Don’t worry we’ll say it one more time for those in the back. being a work in progress is kind of the whole point.

Around here, we don’t expect children to already know how to build it, solve it, say it, manage it, or get it right the first time.

We expect them to try.

To build the thing that falls over.
To have the idea that doesn’t work.
To be really bad at something before they get better at it. 😂
To say, “I’m not done yet.”

Because it’s better to stink at something you’re learning than to skip it because you’re afraid you won’t be good at it.

And honestly… that’s a pretty good reminder for the grown-ups heading into Friday, too. 🫶

We’re all a work in progress. Keep going. 🌱

Tonight is GSRP Parent Orientation at Green Garden, and we’re excited for families to see what makes our Pre-K experience different. 💚

Because kindergarten readiness is about so much more than knowing letters and numbers.

At Green Garden, our GSRP children have access to:

🏃 A dedicated gross motor room for the days Michigan weather keeps us inside — because four-year-olds still need to MOVE.

🎨 The Studio — our new creative space that is still coming together, designed for painting, clay, building, experimenting and making ideas visible.

🚪 A separate, private GSRP entrance created specifically for our Pre-K classrooms.

🐓 Our chickens + farm-to-classroom experiences that give children real opportunities to care, observe, question and understand where things come from.

And we haven’t even mentioned our out-of-this-world food program — fresh, thoughtful meals that make lunchtime part of the experience, too.

🧠 A strong social-emotional foundation woven into the entire day — helping children learn to regulate emotions, solve problems, communicate, build relationships and grow in confidence.

And of course, plenty of play, exploration, outdoor learning, stories, conversations, messy hands and childhood.

Because our goal isn’t simply to get children ready for kindergarten.

It’s to help build capable, curious, confident little humans who are ready for kindergarten and beyond. 🚀

People sometimes ask what makes a playground "educational."

It's not the equipment.

It's not the curriculum.

It's not the activity.

It's what children are trusted to do there.

To solve problems.

To negotiate.

To wonder.

To make mistakes.

To change their minds.

To care for living things.

To get dirty.

To try again.

That's the kind of learning that doesn't fit neatly onto a worksheet.

Fortunately, it fits beautifully into childhood.
