In a finally dry windy day, refinished half of the underside of the butterfly hatch. Something that's been nagging at me for a long time. But is purely cosmetic.

Hanging out, had winds to 35 knots last night, that's 40 mph. Normally I wouldn't be worried about it but this area is known for very poor holding for anchoring that's what bothers me. Pago Pago American Samoa

Good morning. I am doing research on where I need to spend my winter months, at least winter for Oregon and Washington. Originally I decided to head for the Marshall Islands and spend a few months there, then in spring head for Fiji. However in my research during El Nino years this may not be the best idea as the chance of a major storm increases dramatically there. I am currently in American Samoa, and I'm tucked in pretty good. I didn't want to go to New Zealand like a lot do, as I don't want to beat back against weather to return and well I just don't want to. I've contacted the Harbor Master here and am waiting for what he has to say. Unfortunately the anchor holding here isn't that great. Too much junk on the bottom from the Tsunami in 2011. Checking on a mooring or possibly making my own as some other cruisers have recommended. Does anyone here have some input, experience to share? I'd love to hear all your ideas

Stoked about solar output on anchor. If you don't know already solar isn't quite as great as everybody makes it out to be. I have done a lot of work on mine with larger wiring, upgrading to Shadow resistant panels, dual sided or bifacial panels. I have 1,720 watts of solar now, and I'm seeing 87 amps output, or 1044 watts. That's 60% of rated maximum which is awesome. And honestly most of the time I only see about 30 or 35 amps. And usually less than 20 if it's cloudy

I got my 60 pound care package today. I finally have a phone that works again. Well a USA phone. The one I bought in French Polynesia worked but my life runs on that USA number. Sublue came through with new free batteries to replace the ones that were expanding badly. Got a whole bunch of stuff. A new dinghy anchor, sail hanks, soap dispenser for the galley sink, the old one I could find a bottle to fit it, circuit breaker and muffler for the generator. It doesn't need a muffler, yet! And a whole bunch of other stuff. The customs guy at the post office was one of the ones that inspected the boat, so that was quick and easy. Now waiting on a new mast light and a cordless right angle drill to use on the sail winches, my shoulders aren't getting any younger. I was out after dark last night and the light is a lot dimmer than it use to be. It's LED, and I checked the voltage at the base of the mast, 13.2, so it should be working fine. Well if I got to go up there, it's getting a new one. Then watch the weather and head for the Marshalls. Right now wouldn't be a good time anyways, there just isn't any wind on the route.
