History on Bootheel State School

A little history lesson for Bootheel State School. The school was established and opened, under the head teacher of Bernice Wilson, on March 16, 1959. The first school was located at 108 Emerson St., Kennett, Mo. It was in this location from March to May of 1959. The school was then relocated to 320 S Main St., in Kennett from 1959-1964. After 5 years of being at this location, it was relocated to South Jackson St., in Kennett, Mo, for a short time from 1964-1965. From there it was moved to Route 2, Kennett, Mo., from 1965-1982, in the building that is known as the Delta Bee company. In 1967, the head teacher switched hands to Virginia Williams, she was in charge from 1967- 1974. In 1974, Mary Lou Hill took over for a short time. Clerance Bennett took over the reigns from 1975-2002 where he was head teacher until the school had an increase in enrollment to where 4 classrooms were needed. With 4 classrooms Mr Bennett received a new title of Building Administrator. Mr Bennett and his staff packed things up and moved from Route 2, Kennett, to its new home in Peach Orchard until 1989. In 1989, the school was moved to Clarkton, to where it is currently located.

We have had several Building Administrators since we have moved to our location in Clarkton: 2002-2005 Doug Thornton, 2005-2006 Clark Powell, 2006-2011 Sally Morehead, 2011-2012 Marc Sherrell, 2012-2017 Virginia Hardman, 2017-present Traci Reaves.
