We spent yesterday checking out vineyards in Lodi and the harvest is in full swing. Even the reds are being picked now. With all the trucks and forklifts and people, it’s like a military operation! We sampled a number of Italian varieties that we’re really interested in for next year As I’ve been saying, if you want to make wine this year, please, please, please get your orders in now.

Spent the afternoon at Lanza Vineyards in Suisun Valley, Napa’s neighbor. Thanks to Ron Lanza for showing us around. If you’re ever out here, stop by the Lanza’s place, Wooden Valley Winery. Outstanding wines!

Enormous buildings going up in the middle of the town of Napa. Giant hotel and condos. I have no idea what the city council was thinking. They seem so out of place. There goes the neighborhood.

Sooo many wineries for sale here. So many shuttered breweries. And here’s a pic of Gallo tearing out vines from an adjacent vineyard. Those big piles are grape vines. Hopefully they’ll replant someday. It’s kinda sad.

We made it! Checking out our Cabernet Sauvignon at Krupp Brothers Estates this morning. Look and tasting really nice. Still have several weeks to go.
