COACH’S TAKE: Zone 2 isn’t magic.
Zone 2 has become one of those things everyone feels like they have to be doing.
And don’t get me wrong—I’m a fan of it. It’s a great way to build aerobic capacity, improve how efficiently your body uses oxygen, and accumulate a lot of quality work without beating yourself into the ground.
But the real advantage of Zone 2 is time.
If you have 45–60+ minutes, it can be a great tool. If you only have 20–30 minutes to train, depending on your goals, there may be a better way to spend that time.
That’s where programming matters.
Some days we need strength.
Some days we need power.
Some days we need to push the intensity.
Some days we need longer, easier aerobic work.
And some days we need to back off and recover.
The goal isn’t to find the one “perfect” method and do it forever.
The goal is to understand what adaptation we’re trying to create, then use the right tool at the right time.
There are no magic zones.
Just good programming.
Strength. Performance. Therapy.
