ℹ️ Intelligent speed assistance (ISA) detects when drivers exceed the speed limit and can issue warnings or actively intervene. IIHS is rolling out a new test program to encourage warning systems that provide drivers with helpful and clear information about speed limits and speeding.

ISA results will soon be added to TOP SAFETY PICK+ requirements to encourage better systems in more vehicles. This technology is one tool that can help address one of the biggest safety challenges on our roadways.

Kids are headed back to school and that means an increase in traffic from school buses 🚌, pedestrians 🚶‍♀, and cyclists. 🚴

August is Back-to-School Safety Month! Prepare your checklist for a safe school season:

✔️ Slow down in school zones
✔️Watch for pedestrians
✔️ Plan ahead to avoid traffic
✔️Buckle up—every trip, every time!
✔️Prevent drowsy driving by getting enough rest.
✔️Pay attention to the road. Your focus is your responsibility.

Every day, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers and other first responders put themselves in harm's way to protect motorists and keep traffic moving safely. A moment of inattention can change lives in an instant.

When you see flashing lights, emergency vehicles or tow trucks on the roadside:

➡️ Move over one lane if you can do so safely.
➡️ If you can't move over, slow down well below the posted speed limit.

Your decision to move over isn't just following the law. It could save the life of a trooper, first responder, roadside worker, or a stranded motorist.

If you've recently moved to the Volunteer State, there are a few important steps to take to get road ready.

✔️ Obtain your Tennessee driver license within 30 days of becoming a resident.
✔️ Register your vehicle through your local county clerk's office, as vehicle registration is handled separately from Driver Services.

Before you visit, make sure you have the documents you'll need to help make your trip as smooth as possible.

As students return to school, please slow down and stay alert, especially around school buses and bus stops.

Watch for children waiting at bus stops and crossing the street. Always reduce your speed in residential areas.
