Dr. Katie Haase’s Mammalogy class did a great job presenting their research projects from this semester. They conducted field studies for their projects, collecting their own data and using statistical analysis to analyze their results. Nice work students and Dr. Haase!

Super excited for former graduate student, Ms. Lexi Culley. Her work, directed under the supervision of Dr. Rebecca Johansen with co-authors Dr. Katie Haase and former student River Watson, has been published in Landscape Ecology. The title of the article is "Loss of forest cover leads to population isolation in an imperiled, headwater-specialist fish."

Lexi is a Ph.D. student in Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Florida State University. Way to go Lexi!

Congratulations Dr. Brooke Grubb, former graduate student of Dr. Rebecca Johansen! Dr. Grubb successfully defended her dissertation titled "A Multifaceted Approach to Crayfish Conservation: Morphology and Habitat" at TTU and has accepted a postdoc position at George Washington University, working with Dr. Marcos Pérez Losada and Dr. Keith Crandall on barnacle and crayfish genomics and conservation efforts. We could not be happier for you Dr. Grubb!

Congratulations to Dakota Van Parys who successfully defended his thesis this summer and graduated in August 2025. His thesis was titled "Changes in southeastern bat communities: Ecological release or effects of land use change?" Dakota was in the lab of Dr. Katie Haase and his committee included Dr. Haase, Dr. Dwayne Estes, and Dr. Madeline Giefer. We are excited for Dakota and know that he will continue to do great things!
