Here is the last tip, number twenty on how to be more effective with young people
20. Teach a young person how to be happy.
During the month of January, I shared with you twenty tips for how to be happier in 2020. It is time now to dust those posts off and share them with the young people in your life. Every post contained a tip that would help a young person cope, as much as I hope it helped you. However, the one thing that would make a young person happier than anything, is for us to convince them that young people are not in this world by themselves. Young people, we see you , we talk to you, We listen to you, and we hear you.

Here is tip number nineteen on hhow to be more effective with young people
19. Yours plus one
If we know of a young person who is not receiving enough concern and support to make good decisions in life, we should share our self-esteem, our gifts, our time, our blessings with one young person who is not our own or related to us in any way. Not only do young people depend on the adults in their lives, for their self-esteem. but also for their personal and social ethics, and how to handle losses. If we could extend our family by one more person at church, at a holiday dinner, at a cultural event, that would have the same ripple effect of tossing a pebble in a pond. It would touch lives for generations to come

18.Help young people sort through all the misinformation.
I am referring to the information that is put out to intentionally mislead a young person. But I am also referring to the misinformation we as adults give, when our talking points and behaviors do not match. My parents taught me to filter everything I hear on a "screen of truth" and take only the good that comes through. Well, we must be that "screen of truth" for this generation. To be that, we must be truthful!
We cannot pretend to be upset when our young people lie to us, when we have a habit of not being truthful with them. We can start with the tooth fairy and work our way to the Climate Change debate. Not knowing who or what to believe is very dangerous!

Here is tip number seventeen for how to work more effectively with young people
17.7. Give young people time to be young people.
As adults, we have allowed adolescence to become overcrowded! We have allowed some children to be catapulted there too soon. While some of us are "adult-looking people, who have aged chronologically, but who never left adolescence! The people who do not belong in adolescence are easy enough to identify. How many of you have seen adults who are very immature and children who we call "old spirits" because they show a wisdom beyond their years? This "overcrowding is responsible for a great deal of the stress on the young people who are supposed to occupy that developmental space.

16. Find a way to tap into their existing motivation
As adults we make a costly mistake when we assume our young people today are not motivated. They actually are quite motivated, but we must find a way to tap into what motivates them. Once they know you are truly interested, it will not take long to find out what interests them. If a young person likes to play a sport, take them to see it played at the professional level!

15. Help young people find something that is unchanging
In this fast-paced world, what our young people may need the most is to find something that will be the same today as it will be tomorrow and as it was yesterday. As much as we would love to be that anchor for our young people, life is too fragile to promise that. But that anchor is what they have to hold on to when the "storms of life keep raging." Some of us use our religion as our anchor. I have found that religion is too abstract a concept for young minds who have not fully developed the ability to think abstractly. So, I begin my introduce the concept of "unchanging " with what I call "Natural Theology. I show them the beauty of a sunrise, sunset or tell them to look for a butterfly until their world comes back into focus. Once young people have made this connection to the universe, it will be easier to introduce the concept of religion.

Here is tip number fourteen for how to be more successful with young people
14, Broaden a young person'd world view
We should not let young people get to adulthood without ever seeing a ballet, hearing a symphony or seeing a Broadway play. Next time we go to a cultural event we purchase an extra ticket for a young person. You may change their life for the better
