World-renowned orator, author, professor and autism advocate Dr. Temple Grandin will visit Austin Peay State University on Oct. 30 for a community-wide book signing and forum discussion in the Music/Mass Communication Building.
Grandin’s lecture — part of the second edition of the revived CoSTEM Lecture Series — will cap off a month filled with events related to her visit. Many of these are free and open to the community, and the College of STEM is inviting the public to attend.

"Baa-tling Disease: A Model for Managing EAE in Sheep."
Abstract: Enzootic Abortion of Ewes (EAE) is a disease caused by the bacterium Chlamydophila abortus and primarily affects sheep. EAE leads to abortions, stillbirths, and the birth of weak or premature lambs, typically occurring in the last few weeks of gestation, but infected ewes show no other symptoms previously. While scientists have some understanding of how the disease spreads, there are still important questions about how it is transmitted, how immunity works, and how to manage outbreaks effectively. In this talk, I will discuss how I created a discrete-time mathematical model of EAE and show how that model can help scientists better understand and explore these aspects of the disease.
