Austin Peay State University Herbarium

Recently the APSU Herbarium added its 130,000th specimen, making it the largest herbarium within the Mid-South US. We greatly appreciate the leadership of our Collections Manager, Mason Brock. Under his leadership, the herbarium has increased by almost 80,000 specimens since 2016. Mason also worked to implement a grant from the National Science Foundation. Our specimen #130,000 is a collection of Collinsonia verticillata, an herb in the mint family. Going forth into the future our herbarium will grow by focusing collection efforts on Southeastern grassland ecosystems, especially in connection with projects of the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative.
