Two for Tuesday!

The Woodward Library has lots of good movies, too, and this week’s Two for Tuesday challenge is ready for kickoff!

🏈 "Friday Night Lights" is about the intensity of small-town Texas football, where dreams, pressure, and pride smash together under the stadium lights. It’s powerful, emotional, and impossible not to get swept up in the story.

🏈 "The Blind Side" tells the uplifting true story of Michael Oher’s journey from uncertainty to opportunity, showing how compassion and support can change a life forever.

Whether you love underdog stories, heartfelt drama, or the thrill of game night, these films deliver both action and heart. Both titles may be found in the Popular Video Collection on the main floor of the library.

🍿 If you've seen one or both of these movies, please let us know which one you liked best in the comments below 👇:

Monday Motivation!

"I believe that the most important thing in life is to take action. Feel everything, consider everything, read, think, ponder, cogitate -- all that's fine. But you have to do something; you have to commit to action whenever you can. Don't only think about things, don't just feel things -- take the first step, and then the next, and then the next. Do it. Otherwise, nothing's going to change, nothing's going to get better for you or for the people around you."

― Jeremy Renner, MY NEXT BREATH

Those are pretty good words of advice from someone who survived a horrific snowplow accident! For more "Hawkeye" wisdom, his book may be found on the Featured Book Shelf on the main floor of the Woodward Library.

Weekly Quote:

“When day comes we step out of the shade,
Aflame and unafraid,
The new dawn blooms as we free it,
For there is always light,
If only we're brave enough to see it,
If only we're brave enough to be it.”
― Amanda Gorman, THE HILL WE CLIMB

Mid-Week Muse:

Almost every American has heard the story of Benjamin Franklin and his kite, his theory about electricity and how lightning could be harmlessly diverted to a rod and away from humans. On June 10, 1752, this founding father of our country put his theory to the test!

For those wanting a deep, well-researched understanding of his work rather than a first introduction, the Woodward Library has a wonderful book about the man and his theories, experiments and results called “Benjamin Franklin’s Science” by I. Bernard Cohen. It examines not only the kite experiment, but also shows the full scope of all of Franklin's scientific work. Benjamin Franklin was not just a "tinkerer" but a major figure whose electrical theories won him election to the elite Royal Society.

If you’d like to learn more about this fascinating man and how his scientific mind worked, the book may be found in our General Collection:

Monday Motivation!

“We've all had joy and heartbreak. We've all had ups and downs. I've survived mine by trying to find the funny in every situation, and, eventually, having the faith that things will sort themselves out. It might take a while, but in the end, everything's going to be all right. Every time you find yourself saying, "What in the world?" you're one step closer to getting where you want to go.”

— Leanne Morgan, WHAT IN THE WORLD?!

You can find this funny and down to earth story on the Woodward Library's Featured Books shelf on the main floor.
