We offer rich, nature-immersive learning experiences to foster children's development in creativity, critical thinking, and confidence. Airie Forest School is an early childhood learning community that empowers children to joyfully explore a holistic education. Take STEM learning beyond the room and into the wild.

Airie Outdoor Academy has a nature-immersive STEM class for your 5 - 8-year-old each Thursday this school year.

Nature-immersive STEM means your child won't simply learn "about" ecology, geology, engineering, weather, or biology; your child will experience these subjects firsthand. I mean...the forest is the original "STEM" classroom 🌿

Along the way, they strengthen observation skills, scientific thinking, vocabulary, writing, and problem-solving through field journals, nature sketching, storytelling, and rich conversations inspired by their adventures. Every expedition nurtures curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of exploring the world around them..

📖 Inspiring Lifelong Readers Through Hands-on Exploration 📖

At Airie, literacy is more than learning to read; it's learning to communicate, wonder, collaborate, and create. Through engaging read-alouds, hands-on projects, dramatic play, discussion, and real-world investigations, children build strong reading and writing skills while discovering the joy of learning alongside others. Literacy becomes an invitation to explore, question, and imagine, not simply something to complete.

📚 SPROUTS CLASS - A project-based, collaborative literacy class for children aged 5 to 7 years by 8/15/26. This primary literacy program meets on Mondays & Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Children learn to trust one another and to challenge their minds and bodies through outdoor play. Throughout this course, the children learn how to handle the challenges of group work and experience the joys of friendship.

📚 ARTICHOKE HEARTS BOOK CLUB - This club is more than story time—it's a community of readers. Each meeting brings books to life through conversation, games, crafts, dramatic play, and hands-on experiences that deepen children's understanding of each story. By experiencing literature together, children learn that books are invitations to explore new worlds, build friendships, and discover ideas that stay with them long after the final page is turned.

The Artichoke Hearts read-aloud club meets on the third Sunday of each month from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and is open to all local Clarksville families with children ages 6 to 8 years.

Why should children spend time learning outside?

Because the natural world is the original classroom.
When children climb logs, they develop balance, coordination, and confidence. When they build forts, they practice engineering, collaboration, and problem-solving. When they follow a salamander under a rock or watch a bee visit a flower, they become scientists driven by genuine curiosity.

Outdoor learning engages the whole child—mind, body, and spirit.

Research shows that time in nature supports:
✨ Stronger attention and focus
✨ Better physical health and motor development
✨ Increased creativity and problem-solving
✨ Reduced stress and anxiety
✨ Deeper social-emotional growth
✨ A lifelong connection to the natural world

But perhaps most importantly, learning outside gives children something increasingly rare: the freedom to wonder.

The sticks become stories. The mud becomes inventions. The forest becomes a place where children discover who they are.

The best learning doesn't always happen at a desk. Sometimes it happens beneath a canopy of trees. 🌲
