Behind every successful student veteran transition at Austin Peay, there is a dedicated team ready to guide the way. This week, we are shining our Staff Spotlight on Shirley Conner with APSU Veterans Upward Bound! π
From navigating VA education benefits to mastering the APSU student portal, Shirley personally walks veterans through every step of the college enrollment process.
For sophomore healthcare management major and retired Army SFC Matthew Samuelson, Shirley was the reason he stayed. "If it wasn't for her, I would not be here right now taking classes," Matthew shared. "She looks after the veterans, and she follows upβshe's a fantastic person to have on this campus."
Student veteran Zoe Alvarez echoes that gratitude: "Ms. Conner immediately stepped in with patience and understanding... what initially felt intimidating and complicated became manageable because of her knowledge."
Thank you, Shirley, for your unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment to our military community! π©β€οΈπ€

Yesterday was a powerful day of connection, recognition, and future-forward planning at our annual MVA All-Hands meeting! π
We kicked off the day at Old Glory with breakfast and jumped straight into impactful keynote sessions with Dr. Shelana Martin and Dr. Jo Baldwin. We also heard vital progress updates and celebrated major milestones across our departments, including VSOC, VUB, NMFRC/MAPP, AFCFC, and VEBO. πΌπ
One of the best parts of the day? Coming together for our mid-day team activity, snapping our annual team photo, and formally recognizing the outstanding dedication of our staff and graduates from each department. π
π
Thank you to our planning committee and to everyone who attended and brought such incredible energy to the room. We are so proud of this team!
Drop a β₯οΈ in the comments, and share your favorite moment from the day! π
