I know how to build a lesson. I did not know how to build an object.

Three books.

Teacher's Guide. Student Notebook. Read-Aloud storybook.

On a screen that is three files.

As a real thing it is paper, page counts, and whether a page survives a four year old with wet hands.

Here is the lesson a first timer learns. A digital fix takes ten minutes. A physical fix takes a season. You do not patch a printed page.

You reprint it.

Which means every page has to be right before it goes to print.

I am a full time employee and a homeschool mother, not a manufacturer.

Every part of this gets learned slowly.

I am a teacher first. Not an herbalist who decided to teach.

That order explains almost everything about Eden.

I hold an M.Ed. So the first question in this curriculum is never what a child ought to know about a plant. It is what a five year old can actually hold in her hands on a Wednesday, and whether any of it is still in her head on Friday.

So the week has a shape, and it never moves. Monday is story and Scripture. Tuesday is discovery and botany. Wednesday is the kitchen. Thursday she draws and writes. Friday is Garden and Review, every single week, all thirty six of them.

Five vocabulary words a week. Bible, science, reading, art, and family discussion. One open and go curriculum. The Wednesday kitchen lab is also where the measuring lives, halving and doubling with real cups and real leaves in front of her.

The reading level is K through 2. The plant work is not. A younger one gets the week curated down, an older one gets stretch notes, and nobody gets sent to another room to do something separate.

Two children, three years apart, one plant, one table.

The reading level in Sprouts is K-2. The plant work is not. That gap is on purpose.

A younger section curates the week down. Stretch notes take the very same lesson up. Nobody gets handed a coloring page and sent to the other room while the real lesson happens without them.

Wednesday is the kitchen lab, and that is where you see it working. Every preparation the children make is a same-day preparation. Tea, decoction, cold infusion, compress, culinary, honegar and the rest of the ten. Nothing sits on a shelf for six weeks waiting to become something. You make it, you look at it, you talk about it, you clean it up before dinner.

So the five year old tears leaves. The eight year old reads the step out loud and keeps everybody honest about the order, and halving or doubling the amounts is her job too.

The older one teaching the younger one is the oldest lesson plan there is.

"One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts." Psalm 145:4

The gap I found was not in the plants. It was in the worship.

I did formal herbalism training. The plant work was never the problem.

But every time the teaching moved past the leaf, it went one of two directions. Either there was no spiritual frame at all, or there was one borrowed from Far Eastern metaphysics. Energy. Force. Balance as a cosmic thing with a will of its own.

I am a Christian mother. I could not hand my children either of those.

So Eden keeps the observations and throws out the attribution. All of it. What a plant does in a cup of hot water is something you can watch and write down. Why it is here at all is a different sentence, and that sentence belongs to God.

A plant is a gift, not a god. That line is the spine of the whole thing.

"See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ." Colossians 2:8, NASB

Traditional use gets reported here as history. What people saw, and who to thank for it, are two different lessons. 🌿

I just opened my mail and found this card from Aurie Riley, and I had to sit down for a minute.

If I'm honest, it was the wind I needed today.

These past months I've been on podcast after podcast and working long hours behind the scenes, laying the groundwork for when curriculum purchasing season comes back around. Most of that work is invisible. And some days I wonder if all the extra hours will actually bear fruit, or if the time I'm giving up with my own babies is the right trade.

Then a handwritten note shows up praying that this curriculum reaches the moms who are drowning in overwhelm and need it. That is exactly why I started. The Lord sure knows how to send encouragement right on time.

Tomorrow my girls and I are having and early morning breakfast together and shopping for new shoes. No laptop, no recordings. Just us.

I'm learning that the ebb and flow is part of the balance, and I'm still figuring it out. I would be so grateful for your prayers as I walk through motherhood, homeschooling, and building something I truly love.

God's calendar is slower than mine, and kinder.

To say that this has been a steep learning curve is quite the understatement.

God has taught me more about waiting and what it means to truly trust.

I am a full time employee and a homeschool mother, not a manufacturer. I am still learning the difference between what I can build and what I can promise.

"The LORD's loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23
