Should I start with iron sights on my new pistol or go straight to an optic? The answer can be yes to both. But it is highly recommended to become efficient with your iron sights first because they are your backup sights if your optic goes down and will help you when learning an optic too. However, if you choose to go straight to an optic there is no rule saying you can’t learn it first and then practice with irons too becoming efficient with both.
One thing to learn with iron sights is what kind of hold do you need which is illustrated in the picture I have attached. You can usually find out which hold is needed off the sight manufacturer web page or testing and learning at the range.

As Christians, carrying a firearm is not about fear, pride, or seeking confrontation. It is about accepting the responsibility to protect the lives God has entrusted to our care.

Scripture teaches us to love our neighbor, protect the innocent, and stand against evil. Carrying a firearm does not replace our faith in God—it reminds us of our duty to be prepared, responsible, and vigilant in a fallen world.

A firearm is not a symbol of power. Character is. Integrity is. Faith is.

The true measure of an armed citizen is not marksmanship alone, but self-control, humility, wisdom, and the ability to show restraint when emotions run high. The strongest person in the room is often the one who can remain calm, make sound decisions, and choose peace whenever possible.

Every day I carry a firearm, I am reminded that I represent more than myself. I represent my family, my values, my faith, and my commitment to doing what is right—even when it is difficult.
