While serving as a Training Sergeant, I believed effective training required firsthand experience. To better prepare our Detention Deputies, I became TCI-certified and volunteered to work shifts in the jail.

The response from the Deputies was overwhelmingly positive. Many were surprised and encouraged to see someone from Administration, with a Patrol background, step in and work alongside them.

Unfortunately, my first shift was also my last. My chain of command determined it was “not a good use of my time.”

The same applied on the street. When urgent calls came out; crashes, medical emergencies, or high-priority incidents I responded if I was the closest available unit. It was the right thing to do. Still, I was repeatedly criticized for it.

At the end of the day, the badge doesn’t change based on assignment. We are all Deputies whether in Patrol, Detention, or Administration and leadership should never lose sight of that.

Great time teaching the ALERRT SORD (Solo Officer…live fire) class for TX DPS in Midland TX! SORD is one of my favorites to teach…students get a chance to pressure test their guns and gear…something Cops need to do more often…figure it out in the range before it’s time to do it for “realsies”!

The First Three Steps: Why Sprinting Matters More Than You Think - Calibre Press By Richard Hough & Hannah Burkhart It’s a routine stop. Nothing unusual. You’ve run the plate. You’re watching the driver’s hands. You’re already thinking ahead—what this might be, what it might become. Then the door opens. And he runs. Not a jog. Not hesitation. Full commitment—he’s...

Let’s be honest, too many in leadership forget who they work for. I have experienced it firsthand.

Mike Oliver doesn’t.

He’s not running to serve a party, a circle, or an agenda. He’s running to serve everyone, equally, fairly, and without compromise. No favoritism. No politics interfering with public safety. Just professionalism and accountability, the way it’s supposed to be.

He’s upfront about his values, but even more importantly, he’s clear about his duty: the Office of Sheriff belongs to the people. Period.

Our community doesn’t need more talk, we need leadership that is visible, accountable, and willing to answer hard questions. Mike Oliver has set that expectation from day one.

If you’re ready for a Sheriff who answers to the people and stands on principle, this is it.

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐒𝐭. 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐠𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲!

Today is a great reminder of the importance of community, tradition, and a little bit of celebration with the people who matter most. St. Patrick’s Day is about more than wearing green it is about coming together, sharing in fellowship, and appreciating the blessings we have.

I am grateful to live in a community where neighbors look out for one another and where strong values continue to guide us forward. Whether you are spending today with family, friends, or out supporting local businesses, I hope it is filled with joy and a little Irish luck.

As always, I encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and keep safety a priority on our roadways.

From my family to yours, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀
