Have you ever heard of muscle memory? Of course you have. Memory lives in movement—that’s why I can slip into trance so easily in my work as a massage therapist. I often forget the names of the different clusters of fibers and muscles. I stumble over the scientific terms.

Yet, my hands know what to do. I am grateful—life is often too crazy to rely on my head.

While I show you what I mean, see if you can play “spot the ritual.” It begins with the everyday—the kind of morning we all know too well.

I went to bed early last night, woke up early this morning, and enjoyed a quick shower. Still, with kids, it rarely matters. It’s Saturday, so of course my son woke up bright and early, the way I wish he would on school days. His dad held on to sleep as if his life depended on it.
