Reminder for Tues-Wed-Thurs students:
This week is our Fall Break! Enjoy some fall activities in your afternoon! 🍁

This mid-week break helps to equalize our studio calendar, as Monday students and Friday/Saturday students receive additional holidays throughout the year, such as Labor Day, Memorial Day, Good Friday, etc. I make every effort to keep our calendar equitable, and I hope our Fall Break gives you a chance to enjoy some fun autumnal activities and catch your breath! 🍂

See you next week!

Tonight, I finished teaching just in time to tune in to the livestream of the opening of the Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blues Festival at New Mexico State University's Atkinson Recital Hall - with my dad on trumpet!

My dad gave me the gift of music through my life, and I can't imagine how many of my performances he has attended over the years. I am so grateful for this age of technology that I can support his performances on the other side of the country.

My dad is a living example of the lifelong value of music. He took trumpet and piano lessons as a child and through high school, then pursued other studies and focused on a career. In his retirement, he returned to music and is active in several ensembles and performs year-round. I am humbled by his example.

Like family, Music is forever.
Tonight, I am humbled and grateful for the blessings of both. 🤍

I absolutely LOVE showcasing student work!
It can be such a challenge to promote a sense of community in a studio of private lessons and show work where our victories are forged in solo practice sessions at home.

But I continue to seek ways to celebrate each of our learners, because we are on marvelous journeys - ALL of us!

Last year, my studio walls were lined with student coloring pages of Growth Mindset quotes, and those coloring pages brought me SO MUCH daily joy. It was honestly one of my favorite things I've ever done with students. Each lesson, I saw students' eyes travel to those pages, and some would quietly ask "Who is featured this week?" We all LOVED those coloring pages! At the end of the year, the pages each were returned to their respective artist, and my walls were bare once more.

As students chose this year's coloring pages, I reminded some students that they could even color more than one page, and one student's eyes lit up.
"Really?!"
"Of course! Why would I put a limit on joy?! Happiness is unlimited!"
And then I gasped as we stared at each other.
An impromptu studio slogan was born.

This year's studio motto: Happiness is unlimited 🤍

I am actively walking toward happiness in my life, and am embracing this slogan myself. I strive to create an environment of true happiness for every student. I hope that I can encourage joy in each student's experience here as they create, as they grow in their music, as they hone their craft, and as they learn who they are and who they want to become - as musicians and as citizens of their community.

Every day, we create joy and our world brings joy to us. Happiness is around us, in each little moment.

Stay tuned to this page for Monday posts of student coloring pages of Musical Quotes, and new Techno Tuesdays featuring Incredibox student creations- a worldwide favorite beatbox music creation site!

Embrace - and add to - the goodness in the world around you.

Happiness IS Unlimited 💗
