Did you know? 🤔
The rhythms and movements we teach are part of a global story—traveling from Africa through the Transatlantic Slave Trade to places like Brazil and Cuba, and across the diaspora all the way to us?
From the drum to the dance, these traditions have always been about community, communication, and culture.
When you step into class, you’re stepping into history. Djoli Kelen curates experiences that connect and remind us of who we are!🔥
When did you first join us? What rhythm did you learn? What was your experience?

Last year… April 24th… at Music Box Village… something sacred took place.
We didn’t just have a concert.
We created a moment in history.
We stood together to honor a giant — Youssou Ndour— and the unstoppable force of Super Étoile de Dakar. Through the love of the people and the power of the culture, the city of New Orleans rose up and presented him with a proclamation, a key to the city, and a day in his name.
A bridge between Africa and the diaspora… honored properly.
But in that same breath… in that same spirit…
The city turned around… and gave me something I will carry for the rest of my life.
Weedie Braimah Day.
Not for ego.
Not for hype.
But for what the drum represents.
For what we’ve built together.
For what’s STILL being written.
And now…
We answer that blessing the only way we know how:
WITH MORE FIRE. MORE LOVE. MORE TRUTH.
🔥 APRIL 29TH 🔥
We return… stronger… deeper… louder…
THE FIRST EVER
🥁 SWORN TO THE DRUM — WEEDIE DAY FESTIVAL 🥁
This is not just an event.
This is a calling.
A calling for the culture.
A calling for the ancestors.
A calling for EVERYBODY who feels rhythm in their chest and truth in their spirit.
I’m bringing my family — The Hands of Time — to take you on a journey across continents, across generations, across sound itself…
And standing with us… my brother… a true master of soul…
the legendary Stokley
Plus our brothers, the fearless and genre-bending Toubab Krewe
And listen… I’m telling you now…
👀 There are surprises coming that will shake the ground.
If you felt what happened last year… you already know this is DIFFERENT.
If you missed it… this is your moment to step into something real.
This is joy.
This is power.
This is BLACK music in its full, global, unstoppable form.
