Student Leadership Spotlight: Lilly Brooks

Say hello to 6th grader Lilly Brooks, a Discovery Virtual School student who leads with creativity, independence, and initiative—and inspires others to do the same!

Lilly is a highly motivated learner who maintains her schedule with minimal supervision and consistently earns strong grades across subjects. But it’s her passion for creating and sharing that truly sets her apart.

From building Google Slides animations to collaborating on storytelling and game design projects with friends, Lilly blends leadership with imagination. She’s even taught herself advanced design tools to bring her ideas to life—and she shares them with others to spark learning and connection.

Lilly reminds us that leadership doesn’t just show up in grades—it shines in innovation, consistency, and the willingness to bring others along for the journey.

Student Leadership Spotlight: Holly Helinski

Let’s hear it for Holly Helinski, an 8th grade student at Discovery Virtual School whose leadership shines through hard work, generosity, and a heart for others—human and animal alike!

Holly helps run her family’s farm, supporting everything from feeding and training animals to assisting with breeding services—all while staying on top of her schoolwork with complete independence. She even helps her younger sisters with their learning and chores.

She volunteers for Grand Prix dressage rider Jessica Wisdom at horse shows and training events, taking on major responsibilities while maintaining strong academic performance.

But Holly’s leadership goes beyond the barn. When a young girl expressed interest in dressage, Holly stepped in to personally teach her—on a pony she had trained herself. She offered ongoing lessons, mentoring the child with patience and kindness over several months.

With confidence, bravery, and compassion, Holly leads by example every single day.

Student Leadership Spotlight: Mannat Arora

Please join us in celebrating 9th grader Mannat Arora, a remarkable Discovery Virtual School student whose leadership shines through quiet strength, compassion, and character.

Mannat is the kind of leader who doesn’t wait to be asked—she steps up. Whether helping classmates, taking initiative during group activities, or staying organized and dependable in her responsibilities, Mannat leads by example with calm confidence.

A true model of kindness and respect, Mannat has been twice honored with the Star Attraction Award for embodying SOAR values—Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect—at her former school. In one standout moment, she noticed a new student struggling to find their way, offered to walk them to class, and introduced them to others—turning uncertainty into belonging.

Her thoughtful, consistent actions continue to inspire her peers and make our virtual learning community more inclusive and welcoming.

At Discovery Virtual School, our kindergarten program builds a strong foundation in reading, math, and social-emotional learning, all in a supportive and engaging virtual environment.

Here’s to the creativity, joy, and wonder that our youngest students bring to the Discovery community every day.
