Currently, India works closely with the Organization for Safety, Asepsis, & Prevention (OSAP) on various CDC funded oral health initiatives and as a committee member on the Editorial Review Board. She is also a CDC Inspector for the Maryland State Dental Board and a Board member for the Maryland State Dental Association Foundation where she provides expertise with the Mission of Mercy initiative. 🚨 A new law passed…so can you start doing it tomorrow? Not necessarily.

DANB’s Fall 2026 State of the States highlights several changes to dental assisting scope of practice across the country but this is where knowing the difference between legislation and implementation matters.

A law may expand scope but there can still be regulations, curriculum, training, certification, supervision requirements, or effective dates that must be in place before you’re actually permitted to perform that function.

Because “passed” doesn’t always mean “permitted.”
