Sweet Peas Cooking School

Sweet Peas Cooking School ~A hands-on, educational cooking experience for young children to encourage independent life skills. Located in the kitchen of Clarks Green Methodist Church.

Sweet Peas Cooking School is led by Miss Kristin who has worked in a preschool classroom for over 20 years. Miss Kristin has taught a cooking class for children between the ages of 3-10 year olds and also has attended baking classes in the past. She has her state clearances/fingerprints and is CPR/First Aid certified. Sweet Peas incorporate creative expression building on young children’s cognitiv

e learning as well as teaches math and science while improving their small motor skills. When children are able to participate and create something delicious to eat, it gives them a sense of pride and ownership. Sweet Peas uses a hands-on approach that encourages those “choosey” eaters to branch out and become a little more adventurous and willing to try new foods that they have participated in creating. An apron and cooking utensils will be provided for every lesson and your child will come home with the recipe and a sample of their food creation after each lesson. Sessions are an hour long on select Saturday's at 10:00 am OR at 12:00pm OR at 2:00pm.

August is creeping up on us and of course it's going to be another busy month! We are going to start the month off with a recipe that can please so many and kids love to make anything their own, so this Vegetable Pizza recipe will be a hit. The kids get to practice their knife skills and test their taste buds! You'll be shocked by what veggies they will try!
Then we will do another fun recipe Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars! Something quick and satisfying with that nostalgic feel!

Taco Pasta was of course a success. Combining tacos with pasta, how could you go wrong?! We created a delicious sauce and through in some crushed Doritos! Perfection! Our knife skills were on point today too! We explored bell peppers and focused on proper knife skills. We were using both sides of our brains to problem solve, practicing our small motor skills, and working on our patience while cutting.

Don't forget to sign up for this month's cooking classes!!
This Saturday July 18th we are whipping up our very own Homemade Oreo Pancakes (I might have an unhealthy relationship with Oreos....) and then next Saturday the 25th is Taco Pasta, a really fun way to eat one of the best foods!!! This will be fun because the kids can make it their own! Kids are more willing to try something they can participate in and have an "opinion/say".

July has arrived with a force!!! And Sweet Peas is ready to take it on! This month the kids will learn how to explore some basic, ordinary ingredients and add a little fun to them! We will start with some Oreo Pancakes (yes, you read that right OREO!) learning some tricks and tips then we will take pasta and give it some life with a taco flavor! Always a win! It's going to be a great time!

S'mores Whoopie Pies
A great graham cracker whoopie shell with some homemade ganache and a marshmallow cream that is so gooey inside!!!
We love using the hand-mixer and smashing the cracker crumbs was probably their favorite this week!!
