This class teaches the fundamentals of playing the Irish Whistle (also known as the tin whistle or penny whistle). Focus is on good technique--proper hand and finger posture, articulation (producing a clear sound), learning to play mel
odies, and ornamentation (fancy flourishes). Randy utilizes traditional Irish/Scottish tunes, popular songs, and hymns to teach the foundational principles of the whistle. Classesu available for ages 5 to adult.
6-Week Workshops and Group Whistle Classes Available! Guitar and Bass Lessons:
Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Guitar/Bass Lessons available for students ages 7 to Adult. Randy's beginning classes cover guitar care, knowing your instrument, note-identification on fretboard, tuning, reading and playing chord charts, understanding strum patterns, and exercising dynamic control. Students quickly put these skills together to play complete songs with confidence. His Intermediate and Advanced Classes are taylor-made for each student--finger-picking, learning specific styles of music (rock, country, hymns, modern praise and worship, blues, folk, bluegrass, Irish traditional, reggae, etc.), ear training, accompaniment skills, playing lead, etc. Randy is a versatile guitar (and bass)-player and has an ear for many different styles of music. He specializes in teaching songs that students are excited about learning and will work with each student individually to choose level-appropriate songs that are of interest. Bodhran Lessons:
Learn the Irish Drum! The bodhran is an extremely expressive drum used in most traditional Irish music, but can be used to play virtually any style (folk, rock, jazz, latin, country, modern, traditional, etc.). Perfect for drum circles and acoustic sets, the bodhran is a lot of fun to learn. Classes will focus on correct posture and technique, maintaining a steady beat, carrying a song, playing various strokes and rhythms, solo improvisations, and traditional and modern applications of the instrument. Randy Chester is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and music producer, and he currently teaches guitar, bass, and Irish whistle classes in Northeast Georgia.
