One River School Founded in 2012, One River School has been transforming art education for all ages and skill levels.

Founded in 2012, “one river” west of New York City, One River School® has developed a unique method for teaching art and digital design classes to people of all ages and all levels. Today, our innovative program teaches thousands of students in fourteen locations across the U.S. Here at One River School, our students simply have more fun learning to create and produce compelling art. It is our belief that we are transforming art education®, as well as providing an experience that changes lives in the communities that we serve.

SPRING/BREAK Art Show in NYC was the perfect way for our team to connect. Everyone had a unique perspective on what they enjoyed about the experience and which artworks sparked curiosity in them.

One overarching takeaway was the sense of community. Having the opportunity to converse with new and emerging artists, talk about the inspiration behind some of the work, as well as spend time with one another, were highlights for most of us.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and looking forward to our next One River team outing!

Earlier this year, we visited the Brooklyn studio of contemporary artist Daniel Heidkamp and walked out full of ideas and inspiration.

Standing where Daniel works, surrounded by paintings (some in progress), showed us what a creative practice looks like through Daniel's lens, and that perspective was invaluable. Daniel took every question we asked and gave us much more than we asked for.

Michael Brennecke grew up surrounded by artists and started painting seascapes at twelve before falling in love with abstraction, art school, and painters like Paul Klee and Jean Dubuffet. The way he describes when he paints, it seems he doesn't really plan it out. He begins, and if something starts to look like a rock or a face or a place, he treats it like he found buried treasure and has to figure out its story.

Fall is a beautiful time at One River. Every One River School is hosting our own Artist Exhibit with a contemporary practicing artist.

We brought in a panel of college art students, all former One River makers, to talk with our current Teen Portfolio class as they start deciding what comes after high school.

These artists showed up with knowledge and wisdom well beyond their years.

Peter Max has passed away at 88, and it's hard to think of an artist whose work you'd recognize faster. Those posters! He made the '60s look the way we imagine (or recall) it now. Swirls and rainbows and optimism, from record covers and stamps, to the World Cup and a handful of Super Bowls. He defined an era, visually. What a gift he gave us all.
