Hillary's Music Music for ages in preschool up to retirement!You can learn to play the piano, guitar, violin, cello, bass guitar, sing, banjo, and ukulele in private lessons.

Group lessons from pre-school to guitar, orchestra, and jam band. At Hillary's Music, you can take private music lessons in piano, guitar, bass guitar, violin, cello, voice and banjo. We are now offering group classes too! Throughout the year, students perform at local events, community centers, and formal recitals. No student is required to perform, many take lessons for their own personal enj

oyment! Hillary teaches starting at age 3 and teaches many teenagers and adults. Hillary LeFay has been teaching private music for two decades. She teaches piano, guitar, bass guitar, violin, cello, banjo, and voice. Some of these years have been spent teaching in classrooms from pre-school to high school. But, private and small group instruction are her favorite way to instruct and foster creativity. She has students starting as young as 3 and many adult students also enjoy her music instruction. Her students learn music theory, listening techniques, composition, and a little music history while learning to play a variety of styles of music. Hillary thinks it is very important to be introduced to many genres, but spends a lot of time writing arrangements of modern music to be at an appropriate level for her students. So, from Beethoven to Taylor Swift and from Ragtime to videogame theme songs, you can hear it all at one of Hillary’s students’ performances. Community involvement is very important to Hillary. So, you can see her students performing during a local 5K to entertain the runners, and in a variety of nursing homes and community centers They also perform in an annual recital to show off their songs, and perform in a more formal setting.

Poor music theory, it has so many haters! Many people have only been given the impression that music theory is hard, or dry, or boring. Even worse, not useful. That is normally due to tedious classes and tests in school. Or when a music teacher used a theory book as a workbook, and not in a way to integrate into playing and being creative.

The key to fixing your understanding of theory is to use it while you learn it. Being able to think on the fly becomes easier and easier. Learning to trust your ear and having confidence in your choices makes jamming so much fun (and not stressful). It gives you freedom and flexibilty.

I absolutely love sharing this with musicians of many ages and abilities. You don’t need to know much before joining. If you know 10 chords or can read sheet music, you will be ready to jump in. We choose music as a group and go through strum patterns, solos, arranging, dynamics and whatever else the group wants to learn.
