Day 1 in NYC was fantastic. We started the day with a clinic from Dr. Jason Noble from NYU, then we went to Broadway to see either Aladdin or The Play that Goes Wrong. We spent time in Times Square and finished the day at Top of the Rock with some of the most breathtaking views of the city. I’d say we had a great day!

We’ve had a great time in Chicago today. We saw the Chicago Symphony perform Carmina Burana and visited ”the bean”.

Congratulations to Clarinda HS senior, Grant Turner, for being selected to the 1A/2A Iowa All-State Jazz Band on trumpet. Grant was selected as one of five trumpet players through a blind audition process in which he prepared and submitted a recording of himself playing an etude and improvising. As a member of this elite ensemble, Grant will spend two days rehearsing with the band made up of students from across the state, and perform a concert at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference. The concert is scheduled for 3:30 PM on Thursday, May 11 at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott.
In addition, Grant will take part in the final round of the Major Lander’s Scholarship competition on May 12 as the Southwest Iowa Bandmasters Association scholarship winner.
Grant is the son of Jeff and Rachel Turner and plans to attend Drake University in the fall to study music education and music performance. We want to wish him the best of luck as he prepares for each of these performances.

The Clarinda Middle School Band Spring Club's Choice Fundraiser has begun! Funds raised help pay for quality equipment, guest clinicians, and honor band or festival travel experiences for your CMS band students. Please consider supporting the CMS band program by taking time to peruse our fundraiser page or asking a CMS band student about their fundraising effort.

Clarinda High School senior Grant Turner was selected as the winner of the 2023 Major Lander's Scholarship by the Southwest Iowa Band Directors Association. The intent of this scholarship is to encourage students to pursue the field of music education. He will receive $1000 and the opportunity to compete against the five other district winners at the state competition in May for an additional $5000. Grant took a music theory test, performed a solo and sight reading, and completed an interview with a panel of judges to win the award and represent the SW district. Grant will be attending Drake University and studying music education in the fall.
