FEMunion just hosted our Kickoff Zoom! Normally we would host our annual Kickoff Brunch, but since we're not on campus that's unfortunately not possible (remember to wear a mask and stay 6 ft apart!). Thank you to everyone who attended, and if you weren't able to make it, please reach out to us with any questions or ideas for events! If you're interested in joining the leadership team, we'd love to have you!

Hello everyone! It's been a while since we've posted on this account, but we wanted to share what the FEMunion team has been working on throughout our quarantine.
The *Self-Report: Harvey Mudd (counter)narratives Zine Series* is a Harvey Mudd student-produced publication about the unheard stories of Mudd! We're really excited to bring this series back with the theme of: *Your impact on society? ...What about Mudd's impact on you?*
The PDF can be accessed here: https://tinyurl.com/y7hjfcqx
Enjoy!

Interesting read
Neural networks are inadvertently learning our language’s hidden gender biases
As neural networks tease apart the structure of language, they are finding a hidden gender bias that nobody knew was there.

FEMunion is having its final dinner discussion of the semester this Friday at 6pm at the Hoch!! The topic is microaggressions! If you are confused about the topic of conversation or where to begin when trying to talk about microaggressions, here is an interesting article by Tricia Serio, a professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson and the department head for the Cell and Molecular Biology Department.
Hopefully this article provides a springboard for conversation surrounding microaggressions because we'd love a start a conversation that goes beyond Dr. Serio's experiences because microaggressions can manifest themselves in so many ways! Please do join FEMunion and Lupe MacIntosh (leading the discussion this week) for what should be a great dinner discussion!
Speak up about subtle s*xism in science
Female scientists face everyday, often-unintentional microaggression in the workplace, and it won't stop unless we talk about it, says Tricia Serio.
