Want to stand out in the tech industry?

Landing a role in tech isn’t about spending hours scrolling through social media or reading every industry article you can find. It’s about understanding what employers are actually looking for.

Many tech companies evaluate candidates based on three key areas:

✅ Industry Fit – Do you understand the industry and its trends?
✅ Company Fit – Have you researched the organization and its goals?
✅ Role Fit – Can you demonstrate the skills needed to succeed in the position?

What could you create this summer?

Not every meaningful project needs to be a startup, publication, or major achievement. Sometimes growth begins with simply starting something you’ve been putting off.

This summer, consider creating:
✓ A blog or newsletter
✓ A portfolio piece
✓ A research idea or passion project
✓ A creative work
✓ A small project that showcases your skills

Personal projects demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn beyond the classroom. They can also become valuable additions to your portfolio, conversation starters during networking opportunities, and evidence of your growth when applying for internships, research roles, or future career opportunities.

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s progress.

A small project started today could become an opportunity tomorrow.

Learning doesn’t have to stop when classes end.

This summer, consider exploring a skill outside your academic or professional field. Whether it’s coding, photography, public speaking, creative writing, surfing, or another interest, stepping outside your comfort zone can help you develop valuable skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Learning something new can:
✓ Build confidence
✓ Improve communication
✓ Expand creativity
✓ Create networking opportunities
✓ Develop transferable skills

What does motherhood teach us? 💐

As we celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, we asked members of our CGU community to reflect on what being a mom means to them and the lessons they’ve learned from their children.
