We hope everyone is doing fine during these difficult times.
To help pass the time while staying at home, here is a great Donut recipe for everyone to try. Enjoy!
Yeast-Raised Glazed Doughnuts
For Donuts:
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ cup sugar
2 ¼ teaspoons yeast (1 packet)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 large egg
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
½ teaspoon vanilla
6 cups frying oil
Glaze:
¼ cup milk
2 cups powdered sugar
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Whisk together dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl, combine eggs, milk butter and vanilla and stir into flour mixture, mixing until well-combined. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes, then knead 6 to 8 minutes by hand or until you have a smooth, soft dough. Place the dough in a buttered bowl, turn it over to grease the top and let it rise, covered in a warm place for 1 ½ to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Deflate the dough and turn it out to a lightly floured surface. Gently roll the dough out to ¼-inch and cut with a round cutter. Extra dough can be rolled into donut holes. Cover loosely with greased plastic wrap and let rise again for about 1 hour, until doubled again.
Place the oil in a deep skillet and heat to 350°. Place the doughnuts in the oil and fry until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Do not fry longer as the doughnut will be tough. Drain onto paper towels.
To make the glaze, stir the milk into the powdered sugar until it is smooth, then add the vanilla. When the doughnuts are cool enough to handle (but still warm), dip the tops of the doughnuts in the glaze, then place on a rack to let the glaze drip down. Makes about 16 doughnuts plus holes.
Do you have a Birthday or Special event coming up? Celebrate it here with a cooking party! We host parties for kids and adults. Visit our website for more information.
