Dear Friends & Families of CPCC,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that our Ms. Kasita passed away on Saturday, December 31st.
She had been hospitalized since October and on life support since the beginning of December. It was determined in mid-December that there was no longer any brain activity. Her son Mark had to make the very difficult decision to remove her from life support on December 31st and transition her to palliative care. When that happened, she was kept comfortable and passed away less than half an hour after being removed from life support.
I spoke with Mark this morning as he is overwhelmed with grief over the huge loss of his beloved mother and is also faced with organizing her funeral.
Mark wants all of us to know how important CPCC was to his mother and that it was her second home and family since she came here on 9/11/2001 (I told her it was the one good thing that happened that day). He said that the teachers here were like sisters to his mom and Mark is very thankful for the years his mom spent here. She loved her work and she loved the children in her care.
The arrangements for her funeral are still pending, but she will have her service and reception here and the burial will be in Forest Lawn. The expenses are huge, and Mark has set up a go fund me campaign to help cover expenses. The money that has already been collected will be donated to that campaign. Mark sent the picture of his mom and other staff members. It was taken at the Busy Bees graduation last June where we thanked our teachers for their years of service. Ms. Kasita was already out on disability at that time, but she attended the event to receive her recognition pin and to be honored for 20 years of service.
Ms. Kasita will be sorely missed by the CPCC community, and I will remember her for her kindness, good humor, and love for others, especially children.
With love and sadness,
Sacha
