The Claremont Graduate University Teacher Education Program is pleased to announce Hilary LaConte as 2016 Alumna of the Year. She is receiving the award because of her commitment to fostering the academic success of all students, as demonstrated by her work on the Claremont school board and the many other leadership roles she serves in her community.

Happy first day of spring semester 2016! The School of Educational Studies is hosting a "double feature" of great lectures this Thursday, January 21st at Claremont Graduate University. Cheryl Crazy Bull, President and CEO of the American College Fund, will give her talk at 5 pm as part of the Daryl G. Smith Diversity Lecture Series. We are also pleased to have Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billlings deliver a talk titled "On Race and Mentoring" at 7pm. Both lectures will be held in Albrecht Auditorium and are open and free to the public. Teacher Education alumna Robyn Rosebear Iraheta's middle school students are in need. Over 90 percent are economically disadvantaged, 35 percent are English Language Learners, and over 75 percent qualify for free or reduced lunch. They're also in love with Max, the protagonist in Rodman Philbrick's "Freak the Mighty." Robyn is raising money to purchase books for her students so they can finish the series and understand how one self-deprecating character can overcome his learning disability, the death of his beloved best friend, and create positive change in his own life. Please help her if you can.

The new edition of the Flame magazine is out now, featuring a story on alumnus Matt Simon's work helping students produce a documentary on gun violence.
The new issue of the Flame magazine is out. This edition focuses on significant research by faculty and students, including a program to reduce diabetes and obesity in Riverside County, an oral history project on women in Botswana, and an analysis of voter suppression among isolated Native American communities in South Dakota and Montana.
